2 added to the rotation...

I was off work today so naturally I spent most of the day cleaning/sharpening my razors, watching Lynn's DVD, putting dressing on my strop, a couple of practice shaves etc. :rolleyes:

I also had a serious browse for razors, as I had an urge to add one or two more to my collection. My reasoning being, if I go mad now I'll hopefully be happy with the selection for a few months and not have any urges to buy more. So after a lot of um-ing and ah-ing, I ordered these two lovelies. Hopefully they'll be great shavers and in time be something special/rare in my collection. :)

Yes you're absolutely right, I ordered a Maestro - but it's not here yet so I have still got severe "must buy razors" syndrome. :(

Not including the 2 Dubl Ducks i've just bought and immediately sold, my collection consists of the following.

5/8 Dovo Bismarck spike, bone scales (new).
3/8 Bengal spike, black synthetic scales (needs a lot of work, it's my "restoration practice razor").
6/8 Clements "High Speed" roundpoint, £3 from an antique shop (not quite shave ready yet).
6/8 Fenton & Sons wedge/spike, ivory scales. £5 from antique shop (awful condition).
7/8 Maestro Livi ATS34 spike, briar olive scales (new).
7/8 Henckels Friodur INOX roundpoint (new).
6/8 TI SRP Limited Edition roundpoint (new).
6/8 Dubl Duck Satinedge spike, $40 on Ebay (currently on its way to Lynn for honing).

I really hope I don't buy any more this year, that goes for strops/hones/soaps etc too. :cry: :hmmm:

That's what I told myself after buying one of Bill's last batch. Yeah right. Within 3 weeks I had spent just as much on 3 more razors - not to mention more soap, more a/s, a new strop, and a Muehle brush. There is no such thing as "chilling".:cry:

But at least I don't seem to have it as bad as Iwan :p

I honestly think I'll have got it out of my system for a while with these. I'll have a mix of razors to try, from expensive ones to cheaper ones, and a couple of cheap expendable ones which I can to try my hand at restoring in the garage.

I'll post a photo of the collection when they've all arrived. :)

Actually thinking about it, I bought a 6 slot chisel roll to store my razors in on monday. So 8 is a good number to stop at, 6 in the shaving rotation and 2 in the garage being worked on (or destroyed). :thinking:

I wish I had known you were looking to buy the SRP-TI razor. I have 2 - mint, never used, never honed, kept in original wrapping - one's that I have for sale ($140). I could have saved you some cash.... (They are still availible if anyone is interested!)

I am sure that you will get top shaves with those two razors. The thing I like about the ebay razors in the $10-$20 range is the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you get that great shave after spending ten hours restoring,honing and stropping. I only wish I could afford to do both!

You will definitely like that Henckels stainless. I bought the same one from John Crowley along with an 8/8 Henckels stainless several months ago. I've only used them once each as they're intended for occasional use but they are both excellent shavers. C utz, I really wish you hadn't mentioned that SRP razor as I'm now drooling all over myself and the keyboard ! Besides, I've been on vacation for almost three weeks and have made the rounds of the local antique stores and so now have to go back to work :cry: to pay for the acquisitions(mostly future restoration projects).

Actually, I've been pretty good, and not bought any razors in months. But then I left by Henckels at my gf's house, along with a paddle strop and brush, and that meant I needed to fill a hole in the rotation.

So, four razors later.

I need something to put my razors in, too. Sheesh.

I just got one of these a few days ago. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it's definitely an interesting bit of kit. It looks and feels like what it is: a NOS 1800's era razor, with a substantial feel like a W&B or Wostenholm from that era. It's only 5/8 though, and despite the marketing copy it's definitely not a "singing" blade, it's more like 1/2 grind.

Mine had a hint of a frown near the toe, but a few minutes on the 4k gave it a proper smile that matches the rest of the blade. It seemed to take an edge very readily, I'll see how it goes tomorrow morning.

ahh, what can I say, I might like this more than some dama's I have seen!

WELL, if you do, just make sure you have at least of those new straight razors in each hand and a frazzled, just woken up/crazy look when you answer the door to the landlord.

Grumble something about paying the rent when you are good and ready...

Look at one of the razors, smile, look at the landlord, frown...slowly step back into the apartment, staring the landlord deep in the eye and slowly kick the door shut.

That should buy you a little time!
