A straight razor stropped before a shave on the leather strop is "shave ready", and is smoother than a shavette with a brand new blade.

Just to clear something up . If a DE blade is sharper than a straight razor there is something about the razor which prevents it being so or the honing or stropping or all of the above.
Oh okay I agree with you all my DEs are gathering dust as are my shavettes, as a well honed straight works better than either in my opinion

Is their anything different to consider ?
Is the technique different ?
Would it help if I was to change the blade after relathering ?
Thanks[/QUOTE]
This was a great way for me to start cheap. I had a cheap straight with Personna blades. For my side, same technique as a real straight and the Personna blade was good for at least 5 complete shaves (WTG and XTG each shave).
Cheers

As far as shavettes go, I agree with you the Personna blades are the best I ahd found, but not as good as a well honed straight
There are cheaper alternatives to the Shavette by Dovo. Or even the Feather.I have yet to understand why Feathers cost so much. You can buy a Dovo Best Quality straight razor for HALF of the cost of a Feather?!?! I'm sorry ,but that's nuts!!! There is a razor called a Magic Disposable razor. I got mine local for 7 bucks and it takes half of a double edge blade, just like a Shavette.7 BUCKS!!! Versus $150+ for a Shavette. C'mon, your buying a handle only, the blade quality is up to you when you purchase blades.

If you are unsure if straight shaving is for you,do NOT spend $150-200 buying those high priced disposables.Get yourself a Magic and $5 worth of Wilkilson Sword blades from CVS,grab a $5 shaving brush while you're there and go to town with it.You'll have less than $20 in the whole outfit. It's a good place to start.
I understand that Feathers have their own special blade vs. the Shavette's half of a DE blade.I was more or less just whining about how much they cost. You really should not have to pay $150+ for a blade holder. The blade is what you are paying for when it comes to a good quality straight.Like I said, the fact that you can get a Dovo straight cheaper than a Feather just does not add up to me.JMO
