Lost about Razor's They were my dads

I am finally going through my dads stuff I have had packed away for about 10 yrs now. He has some Razors, and I wonder if anyone could tell me about them.

I'm a girl so not to sure if I want to use them. Some are really sharp and I have eough trouble with reg razors. I think that I might pass them down to my nephews...Just wanted to find out more about them so they could have the info. a little history. My husband doesn't really want to use them, set in his ways.

A couple seem to have some hone wear, but a fine collection to be proud of. Have them honed and learn to use them!!!

My wife uses a straight on her legs. Otherwise, pass them on down to some family members with a note about this place (straightrazorplace.com) to get them started.

Nice razors and great provenance. If I were in your shoes, I'd ask the male, or female, heirs who'd be interested in using and preserving them. I feel connected to my Father every time I shave with one of his tools.

I have to add my voice to the chorus. Last year I found (was given) a razor that was my Great Great Grandfather's razor, and the only one not to shave with it thus far is my dad. (I'm working on him) Then I was also granted a razor that was my Great Grandfather's. There are few things in life that can be used daily by multiple generations, and they form a great heritage for your kids/nieces/nephews, etc.

A heritage is a wonderful thing, and a great stabilizing force in the lives of kids...to have a connection of who their family is and what they've gone through, and how they've been blessed to overcome hardships is a treasure. So, instead of getting basic historical info on these razors, get some family history on the man/men that used them and pass that down. It's of far greater value than a few tidbits about some factory in Germany.

As so many others have said, keep them in the family. If there is someone in your family who would like them now, go ahead and get them restored (at least cleaned and honed, and I think there is only the one that needs to be rescaled). Otherwise follow up on these forums about how to store them and put them away with a note about who they came from, plus any info about him (provenance) and put them away against the day when someone does want them, either to use or to display.

Yeah the said part was his passing, but we do have many memories. I took all his pictures from when he was in the service WWII and put them in a scrap book, and also burn them onto a DVD with music and captions. I did the same with family photos. Also his letters he wrote back and forth to my mom while he was overseas. So I do have the history down about him. There is only one grandchild and last I talked with him he had no interest but that was awhile ago...I will check with him again now that he is older..Thanks for all your help and great ideas. @ Rothen,
It sounds like you have a good connection to your dad. Hold on to those razors. Someone will appreciate having them at some point down the line. My granddad had been gone 8yrs before I was given his father's and grandfather's razors. If I'd even known they existed before, I don't remember it, and probably wouldn't have been very interested at that time. For years I didn't think anyone still used straights, and never even considered looking into it. Obviously things changed and now when I use those razors I think of my grandfather, and the hard working farmer that was his father, and the frontier trapper/trader that was his grandfather. To use a razor that that man used at the end of his life, passed to his son, who taught his son to shave with it...well...it's just very very cool.

With how much I value that connection, I'd hate to see your family lose the same opportunity.

Hopefully that grandson's come around...feel free to point him here if he shows any interest at all.

J/K. That's a fine bunch of razors, and there isn't one I don't like. Keep them as mementos and hand them out to the replacements* as time goes by, either as keepsakes or shavers.

Not to be confused with direct replacement, which is the one that actually takes your job and is usually not a relative.

The latter is to be avoided and under no circumstances be given gifts, as this tends to encourage them.
