The coating is a wash and is very fragile. If you use the razor often eventually it will come off unless you really baby it. Any rubbing or metal cleaner will remove it almost instantly.
I don't doubt it. New though it should be perfect. if it bothers you return it for another.
It's very fragile. You need to get used to the idea that it isn't going to last long.
The goldwash on my Dovo Bismarck is still perfect after almost 3 years. I don't recall doing anything special to retain it. However, if you tape the spine for any reason I would recommend that you avoid taping over the goldwash, as the tape will peel it over time.
But wouldn't the hone scratch off the gold?
There are some razors with gold on the spine and in those cases we usually tape over the spine to protect it while honing. The tape may take some gold off but it's the lessor of two evils there.
I wonder if peeling off the sticker removed some of the gold? Its not very much really, its only noticeable when you look directly at it. I do know that the razor was oiled too.
