Seven Day Sets

Howdy all!

I've recently become interested in purchasing a 7 day straight razor set. The fiancé agreed that it would be a good idea but only after our wedding.

Since the wedding is now a week out I've begun my search for my set.
Ideally I would have wanted a Le grelot set but I know this is now not so easy to do. I know I do want the set to be from thiers issard but not sure who I should contact.

Does anyone know which vendor would be the best to contact about a set?

It would be cheaper to purchase seven different Dovos new, which is what I am doing. You can purchase seven different types of Dovo's and have a seven day set at less than half the price of what those sets are going for! I have 5 razors so far and plan on purchasing two more in the coming months. My order is as follows: Sunday (Pearlex 5/8), Monday (Astrale Leo), Tuesday (Genuine bone (grey)), Wednesday (Bismarck 6/8 with red scales), Thursday (Black Star Green), Friday (Inox with Olivewood scales) and Saturday (Forrestal).

Unless you are buying a new TI set... a week ain't long enough to find a 7 day set! :)

That's a stunning (albeit expensive) set. However, Rasage Poulin is currently in the process of closing down. I've even heard about customer orders not getting filled. I'd be cautious if I were you.

Why spend all that money to shave with basically the same razor every day? Go my route and brake up the monotony and save a thousand bucks.

I don't consider it as some monotonous.

I use two Le grelot razors now as is.

Figured I expand my rotation by seven and at least make them seven razors made the way I want them.

I've got a few 7 day sets that came off of ebay. Two I never have used as they are vintage and mint, while one was used/excellent condition and I've shaved with that. Mine are all Solingen but one of these days I'll hit on a nice vintage Sheffield set. If I had the $ I'd go for a TI set of maybe Spartacus with natural scales and a barber's notch. As for the variety, besides the set there is plenty of room for individual razors. Good luck on the set, hope you get what it is you're looking for.

For over two years I have been getting a 7 day set togather.My guidelines were 1 look good and be in excellent+ condition 2 be a known fine shaver 3 not break the bank in price. The razor I chose is the Genco Easy Aces. I now have five of them and am still looking for the last two. The catch is the excellent condition rule. The plan is to have the days of week lazer etched on the front blade face. Be patient and it will come togather with time. Very Best Regards, John

Fine group of razors there EB. I have a Pearlex and two Bismarks and love them. The two Bismarks i have are also red. GREAT looking and shaving razors. Best, John

Not a stupid question at all. I think that in the case of a 7 day set, some guys would like to just have one. The razors are identical except for the day of the week markings and should all shave about the same. Some might consider it a status symbol, whilst other enjoy it for what it represents. Most are nicely cased and beautiful to behold.

As for "needing" one? That is entirely up the man that buys/owns or doesn't buy/owns personal preference I'd think.

Yeah bit of an old thread so figured I'd give a follow up.

I really wanted a 7-day set at the time. For me I think I wanted it as a decoration but also functional. You know a nice display case with 7 matched razors. We can all admit that they look kinda pretty. Also maybe so I wouldn't have to hone as often lol.

My dream razor set wasn't really possible to find, so I scrapped the idea.

I know everyone says variety is the spice of life but I'll admit I'm pretty boring. I found out early on what kind of razors I enjoyed and I went out and got as many as I could find. They may be the same blade but they all have different scales. So in the end they all shave how I love but each are beautiful as individuals.

Don't worry, it isn't mine, I just sumbled upon it. I only look for TI razors, so I'm not a bidder. The razors look good though and the price is still pretty low.

I would guess that from the cavemen down to today, very few men have had a 7 day set. No way is it 'good' to have one, neither is it 'bad.' There is speculation about razors 'resting' between shaves, but we don't need to do consider that. Many stuffs are found in duplicates.

I don't own a 7 day set but have several razors of different grinds and sizes. a seven day set of the same razor would probably handle and shave close to the same so you would become familiar with the one size razor. Maybe better and quicker when shaving. But i kind of like using different sizes and shapes. especially different grinds. Keeps me alert and more involved in the art of shaving. now a 7 day set for display would be another thing altogether. It's really what each person wants but it is easy to get carried away with the no's. also it's easier to have another razor to show up than 7 to show up at once. just a thought. ( life's not fair. the wife has more shoes than i have razors) Just a thought. now i have to go take an aspirin.

Back in the day when you had crazy amounts of money you would have a seven day set, because you did not maintain your own razors, you had staff for that, so every week a member of your house star would make sure that your razors were stropped and touched up if needed and all you had to worry about is shaving, unless you had even more money in which case someone did that for you every day too. It's kind of like maintaining your other items in life. How many very wealthy people every change their own oil? If you are crazy rich you don't park either or in some cases ever drive.

Once my barber mentioned the resting thing, this was way before I even needed to shave. But many zears late, I noticed that my kitchen knife, after getting sharpened, would feel somewhoat sharper, after the first use, if itrested, so to say, a day or two. I noticed it because after washingit, I was leaving it to dry on the rack and, putting it back in the block, it was efinetly sharper. Now, I have some background in chemistry, so I know that funny stuff happens, but I kind find out what exactly happens. I guess I will have to carry on my quest on a chemists forum! I have a theory however.

My spearmint produced the opposite result: if I let a razor sit for an extended period of time I had the feeling that it became less sharp. I chalked it up to the second law of thermodynamics but it could have just been a weak memory...

Back in the day every well heeled gentleman would have a seven day set. It was something you just had to have like a BMW or Rolex today. Many of those sets were custom made back then.

I am putting together my own custom seven day set with very different razors. All made with scales of unique and extremely different horn materials. I like the idea of variety being the spice of life. Thats why I never could understand a golf membership at one club. Gets boring playing the same course over and over and over again.
