So I have sideburns, and when I spoke to Larry from Whipped Dog about getting a razor from him, he said a spike point without the very tip dulled is much better for maintaing a clean edge, so I said OK, spike edge it'll be then.
This is what I got:

Looks like a round tip with sharp edge going all the way up the curve. Will this still be OK for keeping the edge on my sideburns?
Yep. That will work. And with it blunted you won't cut your ear with a wicked tip.
For the record, is that a round tip?
That's a spike point that has had the tip muted.
Ah crap, I asked for non muted based on his advice....
I get my sideburns in shape by shaving with the full blade going perpendicular to the sideburn hair (instead of parallel Like you would be doing with the point). Just works better for me.
do you mean a side to side stroke?
Have you ised a spiked? I have found a muted to be better. Spikes tear you up on the learning curve.

Not as well as you would with a square point, wether it be muted or not. Without the square tip you can not be as precise.
I learned on a round point, so that's why I don't use any of my square tips for my sideburns. Learned to use the blade edge and I've just stuck with that.Quote:

This razor will no doubt shave well, but the obvious is that it was honed toe-heavy for a long while. The hone wear at the tip corresponds to the edge. The old guys would press down hard and swoop it! It could be treacherous if that curved tip is sharp! JMO
Hassouni, that tip should serve you fine. Most guys are afraid of or have trouble w/ the square, spike or the nastier versions of the Spanish Point (Boker, D. Peres). They require respect, but I jab myself more frequently w/ the roundpoints. 'Figures I'd be odd. As Glen posted over a year back, the round point gives 'the illusion' of added safety. That point will be friendly and serve well.
For nicks w/ the point - we are primarily used to visual input/feedback. If we pay attention to feel, its usually to the feel of the shank in the fingers. Staying focused on the feel of the facial skin, with a slow, smooth stroke will give you the earliest indicators of a stroke going south.

My first straight was (is) a spike, and I love it. It really did teach me some respect when I was learning. I actually like the idea of shaving with a more tricky razor...
