Henckels Friodur 70 1/2 Did I get pay way too much?

Attachment 90617Just got this Friodur off the bay. Never used.. In original packaging. I see other friodur 70 1/2 but not much info on this model with gold etching on the blade.. Anyway, here goes....I ended up in a bidding frenzy, and paid $150 for it.... About $30 more than I wanted to spend....oh well.. What's $30... Anybody know anything about this razor model w/ gold?

P.s. The picture with the red background is not my razor, but the only other photo on the net of this style....the rest of the photo s are the razor I bought... If you're happy with the price you paid, then it wasn't too much.

It's a nice looking razor.

You do realize that we don't allow valuations on SRP, read Eric's post above that is really the only true answer..

Or you could, accept the Glen answer,, "If you have to ask, you probably should stay away from ebay" see Eric's is nicer :)

I didn't only ask for a valuation, and forgive me for not knowing the rules as I'm new..I also asked if anyone knows this razor model? Most of the 70 1/2 friodurs I found are plain..........

I think the Gold Etch was added to the later years, I know for a fact that these all have a silky smooth edge not just for a SS razor but period...

Well it's all relative. If you bought an average new henckels today, you wou pay over 200$. You got a mint one for much less.

I have an SS 70 1/2...it's easily one of my best shavers. It responds well to a number of different finishers, and holds and edge off an 8k for what seems like an eternity. I truly love mine.

I think you'll enjoy your purchase for years to come.

From Your description it seems to be in NOS condition. Consider that a new Henckels retails for about $150 too.
That means without the fancy etching. Personally I would almost always prefer a NOS Razor about a brand new one.
Keeping that in mind I would not trouble myself too much with the price You paid.

It doesnt matter what you paid for it as NOS. THe moment it hits the hones, its not new anymore, and therefor, not worth what you paid! So, let me save you from yourself, and I'll give you 70 bucks for it. ;)

Some of the Fridours made for Japan have that etch. Some also have the flower pattern spine work.

Well after much debate, and buyers remorse, I decided to contact the seller on ebay. They agreed to cancel the purchase and give it to the guy bidding behind me. I was totally willing to purchase it if it were an issue, but gladly they were nice enough to let me out..I just think I have no business with such a razor at this stage in the game. Lord knows what it would have looked like after my first attempt at honing, and stainless steel at that! I also picked up a red imp wedge yesterday, which I think will more than suffice, and I'm really excited about...Thank you all for your generous responses, and please accept my apologies for wasting your time being that I didn't take the razor...

Too bad. That's a very nice razor. Nonetheless, whoever got it in second place got a very nice shaver. Price is all relative, anyway. If you pay $150 for a razor that brings you joy, satisfaction and great shaves for 20 years, then you can say it's worth what you paid for it. In the end, I suspect that you'll probably end up with other beautiful razors in your collection moving forward. RAD has no pity, no mercy and no concept of budgets or bank accounts.
