Scored a Wusthof on eBay

I'd been looking for a Wusthof razor for a while, and I finally found one on eBay (they don't come up all that often) and looked like it might be able to be saved. Apparently I was the only optimist, so I was able to get it for less than a ten dollar bill. It was waiting in the mailbox today when I went home for lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. It's definitely got some rusting and discolorations, but its going to clean up without any issues. In fact, the entire bevel will still cut arm hair. The pics I've attached are from the eBay ad, and the seller photographed the blade at a weird angle which makes it looks like someone has honed it down too much. However, the reality is that the blade is the same size as my other 5/8" razors.

One of the pins needs to be replaced, so I'm going to go ahead and re-pin the razor. Probably clean the scales up while I have them apart, but aside from a little buffing, this razor is going straight into service after its honed.

I think that heel is going ot be toast and need to be reshaped. The rest of it. Dunno.

It looks worse on the pics. The heel cleaned up with just a buffing wheel and some jewelers rouge

Alrighty.... here's some more pics taken with my camera after doing a little more light buffing with some jewelers rouge. The seller of this razor did themselves no favors with the pics they took. This could have easily sold for more if they'd cleaned it a little and taken better pics.

I passed on that because the pits in the heel looked like the Grand Canyon. :banghead:

It looks like very litlle honing to restore that edge.

I like sellers that don't know what they have and take crappy pics of what they don't know what they have.

I've scored some REALLY nice old pocket knives and couple of good razors that way.

Thanks for the replies! When I originally saw that razor listed, I thought, "nope.... too rusted." Then, after cleaning up a junk store Winchester razor that my wife got me (which was also was only $10), I decided that it would be good practice even if it turned out to be too bad off to really fix. According to the pics, it wasn't worth the postage it would cost to get it to me, but I took a chance and it payed off big time. The last Wusthof razor I saw sell on eBay went for almost nine times what I paid for this one.

+1.. The edge is already at the stabiliser. Reshaping the heel will future proof the edge.
If you simply hone forward of the stabiliser you risk creating a spur .

uh...... did you see the second set of pics I posted a few posts back?

Yes , the last pic is what I based by observation on. You can see the edge is flush with the stabiliser.

I'm either misunderstanding the meaning of what you've said, or we're looking at two different things. The heel of the razor is fine and isn't rusted through like the pics in the original post make it seem to be. There's virtually no real rust on the razor at all.

Yes , I think you're misunderstanding as I'm not referring to rust but the geometry of the razor.
