Nice buy! And you can expect a fine shaver once she's dialled in correctly.... :)
Congrats.

Congrats.
Thanks guys!
Yes, I am seriously considering getting another stone, though the Chinese stone seems to be slightly grittier when I use it with slurry. I could send it to the experts around here of course, but it would also be a bit sad if I have to send the razor off to the honemeisters immediately after receiving it.
While the pictures are still up on ebay; feel free to check them out and let me know what needs to be done.

To me the edge looks pretty good. Do you guys agree?
Congrats! I was watching that one on eBay. (Just watching...no bid.) :)
It's impossible to judge sharpness from a photo. I suspect it won't be ready to shave with but perhaps you'll get lucky. Certainly looks like it can get there though. … and it is a previous user's name on the blade, very cool.
Yes, I am not expecting it to be shave ready, but I'm hoping that my polishing stone plus slurried strop (which I use in place of a pasted strop) will do the trick. The edge looks pretty good in the photos, but we'll see :)
that style was produced for decades starting around 1850 the lack of the country of origin, as already stated, dates it before 1891. the first letter of the royal warrent seems to be missing so i at a loss as to a closer date. i have a few of them and once honed they shave great.
Thanks for the info!
So we're talking sometime in the 1850-1890 range. Great! Between us, I probably would have been willing to pay more if I knew ;), but then, the others did not keep on bidding, so that's the nature of the game. Good for me (and after all, I haven't seen it yet. I hope there are no bad surprises here)
I really like the blade :)
