My new Kropp
hey everyone,
Picked this one up on ebay, It's my first Kropp and I may have over paid for it. It was $80 CDN. I must say though, It is in amazing condition! No rust or pitting. And no chips or cracks on the blade or the scales. To my surprize it seems very shave ready as well. Passed all the tests with flying hairs lol. Gonna have a shave with it tommorow morning and will post again on how it went. what are your thoughts on the price, era, ect?? heres some pics. the marks on the tang are Kropp and Made and ground in Sheffield, ENG.

They are great shavers, but only you can know if you paid a good price for it. Are you happy with what you got, or would you rather have your money back?

Ask yourself what would a new DOVO have cost me? This one is new or near new and vintage.

all good points! I truly love this razor. It is in such great shape and I love the 6/8 blade
-
Good grab IMHO ... I have a 6/8 extra hollow round point that just rocks ... given the condition how wrong could it be? It'll last a lifetime.

Many have passed through my hands. They can take a wicked sharp edge. Great performing razor. Congrats.

I wish I had a pic of the KROPP I found at my antique store this weekend, it was that razor ground down to 3/8.... and only 45$ :rofl2: Needless to say I didnt buy.
That razor is real nice, anytime you feel you overpaid just find a way to justify it ie. "Score, I got the original box!"
Works every time!

Check your PM's.
Nice looking razor. :)

I have one that looks like this, but yours is in much better condition. Mine is still a great shaver, though. I think it was made around 1905, but not positive. Sounds like a good price, i think you will love it. They are hollow ground, but still has a good weight, feels substantial in your hand. Congrats!

I just bought a Kropp today for $15 at an antique shop today after reading what folks had today about these blades. I look forward to honing it up and giving it a try. My only concern is that the spine is tapered from a very thick tang down to the tip. How the hell is the edge supposed to be honed evenly?
Well, all of life is learning...

You probably know this but for others with new and gorgeous razors:
It probably has not been honed. To save a lot of grief, have someone that knows what they are doing set the bevel and do the first honing.
That way the razor wouldn't have hone wear on the spine where too much pressure was applied nor will the bevel become over wide due to flexing. Those razors are thin and can flex on a hone. That seems to give almost no edge and a lot of hone wear unless the person really knows how. I ruint a 4/8ths one my self but it taught me a lot about new razors! Now I tape the spine on a flexible razor to set a bevel and then remove the tape for further careful honing.
Just my take on the subject.

Uneven honewear by the sound of it. Does the heel end of the razor happen to be wider than the toe end?

That looks like a lovely example - I have a couple that belonged to my grandfather, but they're not as nice as that one.
