I had been to those antiques stores at least 20 time before!!
The Monopol had a small chip in the toe, the Sta-Sharp was perfect and very nearly NOS.
These are in my keeper stash for sure!! All for $24!!!:p

Congrats on finding a great deal. Ya never know what you'll find in antique shops, their inventory is constantly moving in and out of the store. I used to find deals like that in my area but lately the prices have gone up substantially and there are more people hunting them down in my area.
Very nice finds! It's good when you can find something locally. Because for example I would have to pay aprox. $10 just for shipping(((
Both were in stores that are overflowing in junk and the owners don't specialize in things like razors, I got pretty lucky. Always be on the lookout for brand new stores, I got really lucky with a new store a few weeks back also.Quote:

Keep looking, you'll find good ones. I bring a small flashlight and always ask the people at the store if they have seen any even if I don't find any, I've had them pull out a box full that wasn't on the floor yet.Quote:

I've been to all of those also. Try the ones on Selby and Fairview, that's where I found the Monopol. Stillwater also has about 5 stores. I travel out about 100 miles in my searches. I've found some great ones on W. Seventh.

I'd love to meet some locals. I don't even own a single straight yet -- was at Target and remembered that I was out of Mach 3 blades. Then I remembered having recently found out about Dollar Shave Club, so I started looking into that. That took me down the path of thinking of getting a double edged safety razor. Somehow I stumbled on straight razors and figured, "Why not?" Now I'm really excited and interested... but have just been reading thus far.
I know much more about hone wear than I did a week ago and feel better about antique stores, but if I don't find one there soon I'm just going to go with the Whipped Dog razor/strop/pasted balsa wood deal. I might end up doing that anyway. Do the MN-ers ever get together? I'd love to learn more/talk with locals sometime!
Yes we get together maybe twice a year and small groups more often, I'm five miles north of downtown St Paul. Randy Tuttle (randydance062449) is also a local and a great teacher/mentor and is also close to DT
