New in package Red Imp

well I purchased this on ebay the other day with the intent to use it as a daily shaver. Yes, Some may think I am crazy for opening it up and using it. To be honest, I am very worried that the blade is going to be rusted out or even worse all cracked and chipped. Anyone have any input on this? It was apparently stored by the owner in a case for some time and he said he feels no breakage through the package. He also stated that if I open it, he will not take it back :| It was a hefty cost and I hope I wont be regretting this lol

If the paper inside looks like its stained or anything might mean moisture got inside, but that doesnt mean it would be rusty the paper could work as a dessicant . As for opening it I am not a collector and would want to use it, but the fact that it is sealed would make it even more exciting to open it and see what you have. Good luck and post some pics if you do open it cause I am curious now.

Even if i were a collector i would open it for sure, but you can open the packaging carefully and save it, i just dont see the point of not opening it,
do you want to show a packaging of a razor........

Open it up, hone it and enjoy! It will be perfect! ;)

That is truly the proverbial "pig in a poke". I'm sorry but I can't seem to grasp your rationalization for buying into this situation. All you have to look at now is a coffin covered by a plastic wrapper. If that is all you want to look at, then you are fine. But, if you took the razor out of the packaging, you could still look at the coffin and the wrapper and have the same view you had before you opened it. If you bought it as an investment, put in a safe deposit box unopened for another fifty years. If you bought it to enjoy it, unwrap that puppy and use it the way the shaving gods intended . . . . have some fun!

oh man, you did pay a pretty penny for that.
he had it up (maybe only for a day) for $50 less the day before you bought it...strange.

he actually tried to sell that on the B&B first and everyone kept asking him to open it...he said "but if i open it then the value as a collectable will be lost...maybe i am trying to sell this to the wrong crowd". i thought that was particularly funny considering you would think a community of straight shavers would be exactly the right crowd to sell it to...go figure. :shrug:

lol, trust me...I am just as excited as all of you. It has been shipped to me and should arrive in 1-2 weeks. I will be sure to post many pics of the razor and of the opening lol

Red Imps are nice razors. I don't understand the objections over the price - seems pretty much the same ballpark as any other brand new razor of that quality, and you don't find these sealed in the package every month.
If you don't value new razors, that's one thing, but since new razors keep selling in large volumes, obviously plenty of people value them.

I think the chances are you'll be quite happy. Just strop and shave - back in the days the factories used to hone them quite well.

Yes , the Mars Red Imp is a very rare razor , indeed . Back in the '30's (I think) . M&M was putting a free straight razor into every millionth bag of M&M's , as a promotional item . They had to stop when some kid's mother tried to sue them .

The op never purchased the razor... He backed out..its on one of the other forums..The original owner revealed it to be a Case 133......

lol, sorry guys. I did not end up getting the razor for certain reasons. I am sure I will take a beating for getting everyone excited lol..sorry! but I did just post my new Iwasaki Kamisori in the show and tell section..:)

No need to new so sensitive pal. All I did was say that the op (that's you)
did not purchase the razor, and the original owner revealed it to be a Case 133... If you take that as being ” shot down”, perhaps you need some help with you self esteem..or reading comprehension. People were asking to see the razor. All I did was tell them that you didn't buy it, and what kind it is....geez, lighten up

I guess this is over.
