I picked up a straight razor. On the blade it says " c. Ellis" over "Richmond" and in the middle of the blade there are a row of three astrick style stars over a row of four for a total of seven stars. The box says "celebrated diamond spear". Can you tell me anything about history, maker, etc. Also, is it in good enough condition that i can get it into shaving shape? If i can figure out how to post a picture.
It's all a void without a Polaroid; It don't mean jack without your Kodak; We're all frustrated if it ain't pixelated; Sorry, no info on your razor's origins, but you'll have to post a photo if you want an opinion about restoration possibilities.

Hey there,
Diamond spear was a trademark used by Challenge Cutlery from 1906 (Straight Razor Manufacturers and Dates of Operation). Most of challenge cutlery bases were near Richmond, so this could tie in.
We really need a picture to tell if it can be restored. Plus if you ever post a razor thread on here everybody wants to see a picture ;)

Yeah she's a beauty! have you restored a razor before? I don't see why that razor can't shave again, there aren't any obvious reasons that it can't be made shave ready, looks like a fair amount of home wear do honing could be a challenge but it is gorgeous.

I doubt that is the original box for the razor.
that razor looks like and mid 19th century blade with horn scales i would start with something like maas polish to remove the surface crud on the scales and blade then show us better pictures!
with some time and elbow grease you should have a nice looking razor... the diamond washers are a detail that you should want to keep, not a very common design.
