Restoration?

Hey I found this pretty cool Razor but I am not sure how much work / if it can be restored. Looks pretty good to me but I am just getting into this. Wondering if anyone can give me an idea based on the pictures if it looks like it will turn out nice with a little cleaning or is there any big things I'm missing?

Honestly for that razor I would simply get some MAAS or simichrome and polish it. Use a sandpaper progression to remove the active rust then hone it. looks like a really cool razor.

Yep, I agree, some simple polish should do it no problem. I wouldn't do anything that would harm the etching as the beaver is really cool.

It looks like it will be a fine razor and a good shaver. I've brought many a razor back to life that looked a whole lot worse than that one does. Great find!!!

wow, I have been looking for something like that for quite some time now. I really want a razor that represents my country. I am pretty dang jealous I have to say :(

If by representing your country you mean England, you are lucky you have so many to choose from! :)

some simple polish should do i think.

The metal polish is a good first step but do note that if you get the metal polish on the etching (the beaver and Canada on the blade) it will remove the etching.

Like everybody else said polish! turners are nearly always great shavers.

you mean remove the black from the etching right? i know it will slightly round the edges of the actually etch.... depending on the depth of the etch it should still look good.

I have had no problems with this and autosol

Excellent looks like I have some reading to do after i get this one :). Very cool razor apparently it was issued to the military but I havnt confirmed that yet. Thanks for the opinions

I agree with everybody else. COOL RAZOR!!

As deep as that etch is I doubt you'll hurt it with polish.

Shine it, hone it and SHAVE!!

Put an edge on it and use it

It's in the mail! Yeh I know the razor is made in England but it still represents Canada as it was issued to the Canadian Military. Honestly if it was made in Canada... I think I would have to think twice about getting it I havn't heard much about great Canadian made razors. So far I have a French "Le Canadien" and this English 1918 Canada Razor seems to be a pretty good representation from the two countries who initially fought over this land?

Anyways I'm off topic, Thanks everyone for the advice I'm going to get some polish and see where it goes, someone concerned over 1 spot that looks like it might be active rust but I'll have to wait and see when I get it.

I usually put tape over the etching or goldwash and just polish around it

Well - you learn something new every day!

I didn't get the military reference until I googled "M&D" and found it stands for Militia & Defence. There are also a number of knives from WW1 pictured on the web with the "m&D" logo, most with maple leaves rather than beavers, though. One article in particular sounded a double-note - a Thomas Turner sailors spike knife issued to the military with the "M&D" logo.

Nice razor. I have to say that if you try and nothing works, the guys that could do something real pro are Max or Undream.
