Just got this in from ebay and it looks a little weird to me, can you give me your comments, I am thinking it might be a fake. Does it make sense to see Doble Temple and Novodur on the same blade. The spine writing is etched and not stamped as well. Attachment 95675

I'm no Filly expert, but --- I don't believe we've seen an actual manufactured fake yet at SRP. Here's my take -- were I a criminal capable of workmanship like that, why would I counterfeit something with such a limited market? Let's face it, Fillys are popular around here, but how many would I expect to sell after all that work? A few thousand dollars worth? That's too much like work. I'd need something with a greater appeal to a less knowledgeable market.

Exactly, the person would have to enjoy straights and be a decent craftsman, it would be more profitable at that point to just make custom razors and sell them for a lot more, even if they were just simple designs.Quote:

more than likely its just a lower end double temple(does that exist? i've seen ornate ones and ones that are more plain), or maybe a older one?
What exactly is the difference between Doble Temple and Novodur?
Are they the same steel with different heat treat?
I have never seen a Filarmonica with all the lettering etched into the tang like that, only seen it stamped.
Never seen a box like that.
The scales looks wrong (from what I can see) On the Novodur their usually fluted.
Jimps look wrong.
All the Novodurs I have seen have Novodur stamped into the tang.
Blade shape looks right.
Pinning looks right.
Whats the width of that blade? A 13 should be 6/8
I will stick my neck out and say you have found either a very late (almost modern?) Filly or thats a fake...I guess Fake!
Not sure why anybody thinks that is a fake... towards the end of the production run cosmetics really slipped but the blades were good still.
i purchased a couple new 14s from a reputable vendor a few years ago right around the time the stopped making them... etched tang, meh jimping, no harp on the scales and lame blade etching. shaved great.
so that this 13 would look similar does not surprise me

I've come across a couple similar ones, And they shaves like a Filarmonica should.
Probably recent production, not likely a fake. IMHO
I'm no expert at all on razors, let alone filly's, but to me I think the razor was either re-pinned or. Completely rescaled. That shot of the pivot pin there looks just like the cheap brass "nail" pins that come with TI replacement scales. Not at all like any of the factory pins I have seen on any razor. I can't comment on the blade though.
Yes those exist, I have one. Novodur by my understanding is the model, double temple is the method of tempering of the steel. Making a fake that looks so sophisticated is not a cheap endeavor , not cheap enough to warrant decent margin of profit.

I have a #13 with ugly "Filarmonica Doble Temple" etched on the blade. That is it, nothing else on the tang with black plastic handle. It shaves well though.
Thanks for your input, this razor definitely looks odd. I have contacted the vendor with my concerns and he has graciously agreed to take it back.
