That is wild. When I was a 2nd year apprentice, union ironworker, we learned to splice eyes in cable. The stuff is some kind of tough and forging the strands together must require a high level of skill.
EDIT; Just read the ad more carefully ...... I've got a Ran Tan Ka Rus ! Mine doesn't show any evidence of the wire rope and it is a smiling blade. Made in Sweden IIRC. Dunno if it is the same outfit.
This concept has been going on for a long time in the knife world...
The Ran Tan Ka Rus was the razor pictured below this one!

Ahh, yeah, that is the one I have. Great shave BTW.
WOW! that is neat! Seems to be kind of like a form of "Damascus" . I have 2 awaiting ivory scales. I have not shaved with the 13/16 one, but the 4/8 smiler does not know it is small! Shaves like a big boy!
i actually was in a knife store the other day and the guy had some of these...he also had an example of what it was made from...
i may be off, but he said that they run a high amount of electricity through the wires and it bonds it together. pretty interesting stuff...
I was forging cable "damascus" back in the 80's in a coal forge. When you first quench it, it's as hard as glass. Don't see why it wouldn't make a great razor blade.
It'll break like glass too. Made my Dad a miniature "samurai" sword letter opener with a piece I had left over from something. No idea how many miles of paper that thing has cut through but it still has wicked edge on it. Mom says Dad goes ape when he misplaces it until he locates it again. LOL
