Wade and Butchers
Hello all,
I saw a Wade and Butcher end on the Bay today that piqued my curiosity. I didn't bid on it as I was out when it ended, but it raised a couple questions that I was hoping to get answered.

First, it says Wade & Butchers on the tang, with an 'S'. I have never seen one like that before. Is it a legit W&B? Second is a question for the restorers out there. To my eye, it looks like it has spent a decent amount of time on the buffing wheel. Is this true?
Hopefully someone can help satisfy my curiosity. :)

Can't speak for the provenance but it looks like the real deal & yes it looks to have been restored.

I never really noticed that before since I have seen a few with an "S", but that raises your question with me also since this has the stamps. Wade & Butcher - Straight Razor Place Wiki I guess that just might not be all of them either.

I dont think its an original! if you look real close at the letters they are not in a straight line! some of them are of center! I have been collecting wade and butcher for awhile and have never see one with a S at the end and the letters not matched up! GOOD EYE!

Thanks for the links. The second one doesn't have the 'S', but I really like the first example.

Could it be that during that period there were 1 Wade and 2 Butcher owning the company so therefore Butchers!

Maybe someone more experienced will chime in, but that definitely looks like the real deal to me. There's no point in trying to fake it. It would cost more in time and energy than it would be worth, not to mention cost. There are a number of examples out there that I've seen with and without the 's'. I'm not sure why they'd do that, but like I've said, hopefully someone more experienced will post.

Actually the company started by 2 brothers William and Samuel in 1820 and later they partnered with Robert Wade, perhaps the first example of
this newly partnership were marked as Wade and Butchers!

Does anyone here think that is a reground blade?
