It's for this reason I use silicone. Not saying I am right. I really have no idea. But, every morning I spray a shot of silicone spray into the hinge pin.

I am sure silicone spray, WD40 and others will work very well in protecting against oxidation in the pivot pin area.
I can apply renwax once in the same way and not worry about rust with normal use without a worry for quite some time.
I have read online that renwax has/is being used to protect valuable statues in parks against the elements and more critically against the acids found in bird poo, how true this is I cannot say.
Having said this I have not left a razor out in the rain for one month!!
BIRD POO? OMG:) something else to worry about, gotta get one of those fake owls for my shave den.
For years now I have been using Russells no rust which is a thick silicon goop made specially for knives and guns. It's the best I've found for long term storage. It goes on and stays on. For short term I just use Sterol.
I use one drop of mineral oil, so far so good!
I have found Ballistol to be perfect for me. TI uses it on their razors, and if they use it, that's significant information for me. Besides, it works well on the frets of my banjo---what a deal!!!
