J.A. Henckels 72 1/2 "Solingen Zwillingswerk" w/interesting curvature of the edge.

I recently purchased a J.A. Henckels 72 1/2 "Solingen Zwillingswerk."

As you can see from the picture, the edge has an interesting curvature to it. I'm new to straight razors so I don't know if this is a defect or if the blade was manufactured that way. I got the blade for less than $10 on Ebay so I figured it was worth it either way. Also, I consulted the dating chart for Henckel razors but I was still having some difficulty nailing down a manufacturing date. Anybody want to drop some knowledge on me? Thanks.

I'm sorry to say what you have there is a frowning blade. :(

Wait a minute. Are you sure this isn't some kind of trend? I found a razor on an auction site that states this shape is a "curved feature to fit the face". Their razor was a Robeson that claims to be "The razor that fits your face". That is if your face was the approximate size of a grapefruit.

How does a frown that bad get honed into a blade? Seems to me like they'd stop way before it got that bad.

Maybe this was the guy's "go-to" razor and he was just too cheap to add another razor to his non-existent rotation. These razors could be the poster children for the Worldwide Association of Razor Acquisition Disorderlies. A organization dedicated to the prevention of frowning blades through the purchase of multiple razors, thereby insuring an adequate rotation.
