So my questions is...was it worth it? Are they good razors? Mine says on the side of the blade "the original and only genuine pip razor- manufactured solely by- geo wostenholm and son- mark granted a.d. 1694"
It shows a pipe on the tang and the blade. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance!

The link didn't take me your razor so I have no idea what kind of shape it's in. Hopefully you did your homework and knew what to look for and what you were bidding on.
Wostenholm's are good razors and if in any kind of shape at all will serve you well.
When you receive your new toy, post some pics of it for us to see. :)
I have a wotsie, that after restore cost me close to what you paid. It is an excellent shaver ( one of my best). I think you'll be happy with it, if not I'll take it off you're hands for what you paid ( doubt it will happen). Double O

Looks pretty good to my untrained eye. If you are asking was it worth it monetarily, this site has a policy against monetary worth evaluations.

I've got one of those that is very like that one except mine has the horn scales dyed to look like tortoise. My particular copy took a long time to hone but I don't know if that is typical. If you know how to hone and have the tools , no problem. Otherwise go to member services in the SRP classifieds and you'll find members who offer honing and restoration for a nominal fee.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. When I asked "was it worth it?" I was asking if i made a good buy or not. I didn't want a monetary evaluation of the item. Just advice on the buy.
I see what you mean and like I said it looks pretty good to my untrained eye. I have 3 vintage Sheffield razors that I haven't used yet because I need to hone them. So yes I think they are a good buy quality wise or I would not have acquired them and they do have a good reputation. Generally when the question by a beginner, such as myself, of worth arises it can mean did I pay too much. In the end the real test of worth is if it does a satisfactory job for you. There are a few measures of worth, sorry to have misunderstood you.Quote:

Just picked up an IXL Wostenholm and a pair of Dickinson Invicta's. All in original cases and in excellent condition. Collect knives but know little about razors. What is the difference between a "regular" razor and a Pipe razor. Thanks and I'll try and post pics later.

I have two of these and they're both difficult to hone due to uneven hone wear. One not as bad as the other. My newest tho. .. Oh man. This thing is giving me problems. I've tried everything. I've been able to set the bevel evenly but it took a long time and every trick I know. Polishing thru took even longer. I shaved with it and it shaved. ... decent. I'm gonna kill it and go thru the whole cycle again to see if that evens things up.
