Howdy,
Just wondering where a good place to store my razor. Right now I just leave it on the counter next to the sink along with all my other toiletries. Is that an ok place to leave it? Do I have to worry about steam from the shower or water from the sink?

Most razors are made of carbon steel that will rust/corrode when exposed to water, keeping your razor(s) in a moist/damp bathroom is something I would't do.
I would never leave a razor on the sink and especially if there are kids or pets in the house. I put mine up high on a towel rack where steam and water splashes cannot get to it. I also put a light coating of WD 40 on it if I don't plan on using it for a few days. WD 40 is a moisture displacer.
So after I use it and dry it off should I just store it in a drawer or a medicine cabinet?Quote:

ALWAYS store your razors outside the bathroom..if your shaving with it..I would say no more than 2 minutes away from it if its wet between passes.

and at home would it be fine on the counter far enough from the sink that it wont get water splashed on it? the shower and toilet are closed off in another small room in the bathroom so it doesn't get steamy or moist. would that be fine?
My razors sit right next to the sink, rolled in a cheap handkerchief. Each is coated with mineral oil after each shave and rolled in the hankerchief. They are as shiny today as they were a year & half ago.
You'll really just need to see how it goes; keep an eye on it. I keep my razors as dry as possible; they never really get water on them; I never rinse them; they really only get shaving cream or shaving soap on them. I always dry them after use; esp around the pivot; I find that's the worst place for rust. I always strop 10/10 after shaving and always wipe them with a tissue soaked in Eucalyptus oil. Sometimes I dip the pivot end of the razor in the Eucalyptus oil bottle to really soak the pivot area. It's amazing how fast they can rust or 'tarnish' (stain).
I keep my razors on my desk in a case or their 'coffins' in my bedroom. I don't want anyone else touching them, either.

Naaaa. I leave it (re. wiping off the oil). But it's really very thin; I just put the folded tissue on top of the bottle, up end it, and wipe the blade. Personally, I'd never use some thing like RP7 (a rust preventative) even if I rinsed the blade before use. No need to use any chemicals as far as I'm concerned.

Kinda depnds on where you live.... I lve in Colorado at 7900 feet... No humidity. I keep my main stable in a old pipe rack hanging above the sink with just a towel wipe off to dry them. The secondary stable is a test tube holder on the counter..

I used to keep mine on a shelf right above the sink. They would occasionally get a drop splashed on them. I bought a test tube rack off of fleabay and now they are 2 feet above the sink with lots of air. No more problems even in humid Texas.

I have to be the worst man ever to have been given the privilege of owning a straight razor lol. I leave my blades beside the sink to dry and place my blades in a cabinet that's in my Den afterward! : )
I dry and strop my blades when I am done but they get wet... very wet when shaving, as I dunk my blade in a basin full of water on every shave. Moreover, I hardly ever use oil anymore!
Now it's not that I advocate for this, but after struggling for months trying to maintain my blades with oil, storing them in my bedroom, and generally spending nearly as much time making sure my blades stayed in good trim... well, it took away from my enjoyment. And as far as I could tell, helped very little. Heck I even blued a blade to prevent rust (looks good - smells bad)!
So far, so good with respect to leaving my blades in the old den! If in a year or two I have to sand one down – well that’ll be easy enough for me to do : ). Of course - YMMV

Leaving the razors in the open sea air, why don't we just use seawater in our scuttles while we're at it? It might be a tad abrasive, though.

Well, as far as I know, we don't have any such creatures around here. There's supposed to be Bigfoot North of me and maybe a Chupacabra or two running about, but nothing to lose sleep over. I'll check into the oil, I'll probably be able to find some at the Hippie store just North of me in Chico Ca. Anyway, thanks for the info, donv.
