Anyone got any info on a Kamisori straight edge razor?

Hey guys,
Love the forum. I'm a newbie and this is my very first post. Looking to get a straight edge razor and get into it. Love the classic shaving and the closeness of the shave. My g/f is a hairstylist and uses Kamisori shears for hairstyling and their shears are great among the rest but they also make a straight edge razor here is the link http://www.kamisorishears.com/ShavingProducts.html
I'm looking at the Kamisori blue blade 5/8 K150. Any opinions on this guys or if we don't like it any ideas for a good first razor? Thanks guys and look forward to picking everyones brain. Thanks again.

Do a search here on SRP, there was a project a few months back where several honemeisters did a group evaluation of several kamisori razors.

The results weren't stellar by any stretch of imagination. They'll shave but there are much better deals out there.

its understandable that becuase your gf says they make good shears that you are inquiring about their razors. however they don't transfer in this respect.

take some time and read these forums. same question has been asked a plethora of times, along with "what razor should i start with" ... the answers are usually the same. - buy a shave ready razor from a member here. yes, thats correct just becuase a razor is new DOES NOT mean that its shave ready / sharp. so buy one that is.

also check the buy/sell/trade forum for member's offerings in addition to the above listed.

you will need more then just a razor to shave. do some reading here, seriously it will save you from alot of blood shed as you go forward, from terrible shaves and from asking questions that have been answered 100x.

ps. the fastest hone time turn around is like a red flag that you're asking. don't rush thru this, don't be impatient. people honing your razor need to test it that usually means shave with it which means 1 test per day until its right. SLOW DOWN there cowgirl, you have much pain in your future if you continue on this path.

I totally agree 99% of the time razors sold from shops that say they are shave ready often are not, if you go to Classicshaving.com there is a link on the left that says somtihng like Razor Honing service, this is then sent to one of 3 memebers from this forum and then sent back to you, dam its only about £10 or something thats cheaper than a pack of cig's and paper these days. As with most "different" hobbies it is always best to take your time for instance when i got my lizard they would not sell one to me for a month i had to leave it in the shop untill i had researched and tought about it more in depth i think every pet should be treated in this way but that a different forum.

Just to toss in my agreement with the others - I would suggest that you buy a shave ready razor from one of the people mentioned above, or really, any member of this forum who advertises a shave ready razor. If you want a "new" razor, then your best bet is to get it from classicshaving and have it honed. I can't stress strongly enough that it's not a good idea to learn honing and straight shaving at the same time. :)

As for being excited... Enthusiasm is good. I won't try to stifle it. :) Just be realistic and realize that this is a skill that takes time to learn and master. Your first shave will likely not be good. You may cut yourself. You may get razor burn. Just relax and keep working at it, and you will see rapid improvement.

The sources mentioned earlier will all get you an expertly honed razor. Lynn, Bill, Joe, Randy, etc... almost alwayd have something on hand ready to go as far as vintage razors. Classic Shaving has a huger array of choices which you can heve sent directly to Lynn for honing. I stock a basic Dovo that is already honed and ready to ship and by next week will have some fanicer models in the same ready to ship, pre honed condition. Our own EL handles my honing. Jim at Vintage baldes hase some nice choices too that can easily be sent to a honemeister here as well.

Any if thse will get you what you need to get started.

Tony I like your Dovo pre-honned ready to ship but am very curious as to what fancier razors you will have available at the end of the week and if you might have some pictures or something I can see.
