Moving antique scales from one blade to another

So I recently purchased a Boker straight blade, its very nice and shaved well with little work. But the scales were obviously not original. After a little research i found that the original scales for this blade are actually very nice. Not the typical black or beige scales. If i can find an old boker razor (broken, chipped, etc) with the original scales and pick up a good pair of original scales by buying the razor, i may just do so. but how difficult will it be to remove the scales and put them on my blade ?

Good idea ? bad idea ? any coaching ?

I will add that when the pins are bent, driving them out will cause the scales to break. If you meet any resistance, take a strong look at the end you're driving out before proceeding. You may just end up like me and breaking a set of scales if you don't!

Read the part about attacking the pin from both sides and the drop of Kroil... This will save more scales then any other thing you can do

Just a for instance, I have 4 razors on the bench right now that I am popping the scales off of, last night before I shut down the shop, I took all the collars off (different methods were used to match each pin) and put one drop of Kroil on each pin on each side... Now when I go to drive them out they will be easy, but if there is a bent one, I will drive about 1-2mm on one side then clip the pin, and drive from the other side 1-2mm out then clip the pin, then repeat until the scales are loose,, this two sided attack negates the bent pin problem :) Try it out

I haven't figured out a way to do it yet but on a razor where the scales are loose enough how about an abrasive wire of some sort and just go back and forth and saw it out from inside the scale...food for thought:idea::hmmm:

ie: A Jeweler's Saw, yes they can work quite well, the only problem I have had is making sure I cut the Pin and not the scales :)
