Fleabay wade and butcher 1 1/4"??!!!
Was just wondering what people think of huuuuge razors and how good they are to shave and manoeuvre around the face, saw the wade and butcher that's up on Fleabay, 1 1/4 inch, price currently running into orbit!!! What are the maximum sizes manufacturers produced razors? Does anyone posses one of these huge razors and what are they like to hone and shave?? Would be really interested to hear your replies!!

Yes, several of our members have razors in that size range.
I prefer larger blades myself, and those big English choppers are among my favorite shavers.
As for honing and shaving with them, they are not all that different at all.
Like with any other brands or styles, they will just require a wee bit of practice and they will do the needful well enoughLast edited by Birnando; 09-02-2012 at 10:06 AM.

Even though I don't own one of those massive choppers, I certainly have a bit of a soft spot for them, would love to get hold of a big 8/8 or above blade, for my own personal restore I'm thinking mirror polished blade, black Buffalo horn high gloss scales, triple pinned with blood red acrylic wedge, I'm on the look out.

Fleabay wade and butcher 1 1/4"??!!!
Love my 10/8 Joseph Rodgers - I remember reading somewhere that they made razors right up to 14/8! Never seen one though. The one on eBay that I think the OP in referring to is a pretty interesting example - it has an anchor and the W&B logo.

That W&B on the bay does seem to be way way over priced. As for shaving they are awesome fun. I've got a couple of large blades and just purchased a 9/8 Joseph Rodgers and am currently restoring it with Jamie's help. Looking forward to taking that chopper out for a spin.

Thanked: 247For every one person who says they don't like a big razor, there will be ten or more telling you how great they are. The question you must figure out is: Is this a case of the loudest voice wins? Certainly, if I paid these prices for my small razors, I would defend them vehemently at every opportunity. But since most of my shavers come in at a tidy 20 dollars, I don't feel quite so passionately about the small razor cause.
Although, some members can spend 200, as easiy as I can spend twenty, which ruins my theory.
You're really gonna have to just buy one and form your own opinion about it my friend. It's the only logical way to proceed. If you read fifty guys saying it's great, and then find that you don't like it...You won't feel good. If you read fifty guys saying they love it, and then you love it too, well then you're a part of the family. It's psychological!!! Yikes! Who knew razors were gonna get into your head? Well..alot of people did, but they didn't tell you. It's kinda like watching a car crash. Nothin you can do but watch, and wonder.
Be really patient, utiliyze the opinions of a mentor through PM when you find one you think is good, and then...buy it, try it, and post your opinion in two months when someone else asks "So what's the deal with these big razors? Are they really so great?".

Thanked: 1263I've got blades from 5/8 up to 8/8 being my largest. Its kind of like a guy that buys a truck, jacks it up and puts big mudder tires on it and never goes 4 wheelin. It looks really cool but is it necessary...nope..lol. I love the big blades, but do they shave any better...not really. Just a different feel

I've got a 9/8 Chandler. Great shaver. The only problem area is under the nose as you gotta start at a 90deg angle. I prefer to shave with smaller sizes as they're easier to work with, but don't regret this one at all. Great shaver and a heirloom.

Thanked: 2027My Dailey drivers are 7/8-14/8 and I love them all, will not use anything smaller.
That being said, one must look at the ecological and blade saftey reasons for using the big guns.
The nation is going thru the worst Drought in modern times,we must conserve water (this only applies to rinsers, not wipers or sink sloshers) shave one side of your face, one rinse, shave the other side, one rinse.
For a quick one pass shave, two rinses total (water Conservation)
The care and saftey of the razor:Very simple,One has only two water spout blade exposure Cycles that lessons the chance of the dreaded water spout ding hazard.Shave green my friends and save the planetwe must all do our part for mother earth.
