That is a Palmera 14, just a fraction over an inch, there are some NOS ones on e-bay right now.

Thanks, Gents. This has advanced my understanding of SR8 shaving. I started this thread after seeing a couple of posts saying the "King Cutters" or "Dubl Ducks are great shavers." I wondered if such a generalization really made sense and I have learned "yes, but only in a very weak way." There are just so many variables that go into a good shave: razor, honing/stropping, shaving technique, beard and skin type, prep, and more. The razor needs the basic steel, edge etc but beyond that, a great razor for one of us might be so-so for another. Appreciate the points of view.
Shaved with a Wacker this A.M.Am 100% convinced that The Germans make the best razors bar none:)
The point of my posts in this thread is:Any quality razor is a great razor.with the proper edge.
Reading this thread is like the story of the blind man trying to figure what kind of critter he was feeling as he ran his hand over an elephant. If you have a WOW razor there will never be any doubt in your mind ever again. However until you have used one you just have no idea. You're like that blind guy with the elephant. You may think you're favorite razor is a WOW (and maybe it is) or think a certain brand is (a sure clue it isn't).
However, one day if you are pure of of heart and clean in mind and spirit you may encounter one.
Not sure if I shall ever qualify as pure of heart, and as for clean of mind..? I have been fortunate enough to find some very nice razors in the wild. Are any WOW? I don't know, but somehow there are a few that keep finding their way back into my rotation from the razor bull pen. In my, less than humble, opinion it isn't big bux that qualify a razor as "Great," but a coming together of all of its parts and qualities into a harmonious whole, where it counts...on my face when I step into the shave den.
Everyone has their own perfect razor whether they have found it or not yet.

PS. Thanks for all the previous posts!!
Every month I find a new favorite razor.
Sometimes they're razors I've had for a while and had never noticed their charm. Sometimes they just came in the mail.
I'm partial to Sheffield blades myself, but mostly because they've got a combination of wildly variable styles and accessible history (I have the feeling I'd be most nuts for French razors if I spoke the language), and as much as I enjoy shaving, I enjoy learning more.
As many of the guys have said on this thread, there are some manufacturers that have a high ratio of great razors but even then, some bummers in them as well. Most of it is based on the honing skills of the user, some of these guys can make almost anything shave ready.
For myself, some razors just hone easier than others and those are what I go with. My faves at this point are probably the Luneschloss that shaves unbelievable and an old Robeson Shuredge.
