I've only been able to find ONE example of this and it's a Max restoration that turned out gorgeous.
I just happened to get my hands on one and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this brand/razor or information about the company?

The Griffon Cutlery Works was founded in 1888 by Albert L. Silberstein .They had different location in new york city and settle a West 19th Street in 1920 and remained here until 1968.

Griffon Cutlery Works produced razors from 1893-1921

The Antelope is a purely sexy blade, it has a French point and a sweet shoulderless flow which follows. A nice shape. I had one. Griffon was a long-enduring dealer in New York. Some info can be found with a search. They dealt knives/ cutlery for a very long time. As I remember, they had their own factories in Solingen as well. The razor is a good blade to have, if complete. Pictures?
This is the only one I have for now. It needs rescaling and some surface work, I'm hoping the edge doesn't require too much steel removal!

Here a thread with the same razor!

That's the one. Hopefully, you can get a good bevel without losing too much. Are the scales bone or ivory? Looks like a chunk off the backside pivot. Don't throw anything away. Good Luck!
Sorry I know it is off topic but I have the exact razor in the second picture of Martin103's post. It is a good shaver but is now sitting in restoration pile for a new set of scales. Hmm maybe it is time to get that one done.
It's missing a little chunk yes, not sure what it's made from yet. It's in the mail :)
So I shouldn't throw out the scales even if they are missing the piece??
I've only seen two others that are this shoulderless model so i HAD to have it!
Any idea how it shaves? :)
The one I had was 6/8 and shaved super. Good Steel !
Is there anything behind the 'diamond steel' or is it just another random etch?
I love those shoulderless blades with thumb notch. They just have smooth flowing lines. Once you get her rescaled, polished up and honed she will look like a million. Very nice find.

Thanks Bob! Glad to see more canucks on here!
I'm thinking ebony scales with a blood red spacer? :)
I am sure "Diamond Steel" was a sales thing!
NO WAY!! I bet they had wee little teensy weensy diamonds in the crucible they melted the steel in.
Or maybe just one, that way they wouldn't be pulling your leg. :p
I bet you weren't the one that loaded grammaw's seegar either were you.....

I told her it weren't you.
Brooksie, that's a way cool looking razor!! ( I also think Tom is spot on about the sales gimmick) ;)
Manah, looks like a shouldered version of the razor perhaps? A little different as far as placement of markings as well but, regardless, the razors I am seeing from this company are all eye candy!
2 more pictures for everyone to see! I didn't see the gold wash on the tang/spine from the original pictures but looks like there is some!

Not great pictures and from what I can see there might be some tarnish (hopefully not pitting) along the blade's edge. I'm really hoping that I don't have to take too much steel off this thing :)
Indeed a nice worked back on that one as well!
As to eye candy, here are a couple of knives from Griffon.

Whoever designed these blades had a good sense of what something sharp should look like!
I've got a carbomagnetic in very simple scales, German steel, and it's a fantastic blade. Conventional 5/8 w/stabilizers and a jimped tang. A real pleasure to hone and shave with. I would LOVE to have the same steel in 6/8 with a thumb notch. Very lucky find for you. I hope gentle honing is all it will need.
