Are there any existing manufacturers who currently produce 1/4 hollow grinds besides custom makers?
Thiers Issard has produced some. I think it was a batch of the Le Grelot razors. Hart Steel also has 1/4 ground razors. In fact, all of them are 1/4 ground.
There was a special group-buy over on "that other shaving forum" about 4-5 years ago, for some (IIRC) NOS 6/8 Le Grelot blade blanks, which TI ground and finished to the group specs (1/4-grind with "pink ivory" scales). The cost was $250, and I bought-in. To make a long story short(er), the curved thumb notch didn't have jimps (nor were there any up-top), and I wasn't happy enough with it, so I sold it. I dunno if I'd buy it back, but I do regret letting it go.Quote:

Finally got to try a Hart. 'Fine razor - but not even close to 1/4h. Very near wedge. Depending on your pref, either could make you VERY happy. The comparason of the Hart would be better matched by the Keilschliff wedge from Wacker. Between the two - you just couldn't make a bad choice, though I confess a pref. for the Wacker.
I would think about going with one of many vintage Sheffields from around 1890-1920. A fine quarter grind round point in ivory from the best grinders ever, JMO. :D

That may be just the combination of my shortcomings in shaving skill or what have you, but amongst each of these - there's none that would leave you wanting for an outstanding shave. You'll have other razors you like, but will prob. always smile when you reach for one of these. A frequent line when I emerge from a good shave is: Wacker love - its a beautiful thing.

I emailed them recently about the "extra heavy grind" in the description and was told it is indeed 1/4 hollow
A couple of years ago I went to the Dovo website and they had a 1/4 ground razor available.
You might want to check into that.
I have a Wacker, Old Sheffield 1st model, it's a 1/4 grind and a wonderfull shaver. I think they're still avalible although it was a limited series at first.
I have one and it was sharpend by gssixgun(the man sharpens a mean good blade no doubt)......They are not expensive and when sharpened right I can tell you........EXCELLENT !! BBS ONE PASS ! Even the difficult spots were smoooooth . It's their 1/2 hollow $80.00 Best quality model, comes in 5/8 and 6/8 see SRD website .And Lynn is tops when it comes to sharpening .Quote:
