Another Dubl Duck Question.

I've got my hands on a Dubl Duck Satinwedge. Clear scales with an inlay on one scale that says dubl duck with 2 ducks over it. On the tang it says "Bresnick New York trade mark solingen germany", on the Tail it says "pearlduck made in germany". front face of the tang 'dubl duck satinedge'.

I've been flipping through old posts and can't get any kind of real answer on which came first! Someone said if it said "jamaica new york' it was imported after 1950. Mine says new york but no jamaics. UGH.

Any help? :)

Charles Bresnick started the company in Manhattan,Later he changed the name to Bresduck,Pearlson too it over changed the name to Pearlduck and moved to Jamaica N.Y.
Im pretty sure Double duck never ever produce anything.

So which variety of dubl duck do I have here? one of the earlier bresnicks? a bresduck, a pearlson? Your answer still has me confused...

Awesome! Hey, I got that pin tight this evening too. I was just emailing my mentor here Stefan that I think I was going a little too easy on it last night. I put a little more force behind the hammering and it seemed to tighten up the pin nicely.

Excellent, Stefan is a great guy. Also, I don't blame you for going too light. You never know when these old vintage scales are going to be brittle and snap.

Yeah, I was tapping on it like you might tap a pencil on a desk. And the Dwarf is so small that I didn't want to bang the hell out of it. I'll get a smaller hammer for this job so I don't feel so gun shy next time.

Great find and thanks for the post. It did two things for me, jogged my memory that I found a Goldedge just before going on holidays so now I know what to shave with in the morning and mine is a Pearlduck from Jamaica NY. I did not know the company moved to Jamaica NY when Pearlson took over. By coincidence we had to transit through JFK which is in Jamaica NY on our trip. Anyway enjoy your new find.

The original outfit was in lower Manhattan and later moved to midtown and then to Jamaica. The razor you have was a Bresnick model that they never sold and when Pearlson took over he bought the stock of Bresnick-Bresduck and put his name on the razor like you have. So those razors have both names on them. You would think he would have ground off the old name and replaced it with his but I guess this was easy to do. Those are unusual to have both names on it. They were really totally different outfits.

The model I have was never sold? How did they get out onto the market then?

I think what thebigspendur was saying is that while Bresnick still ran the company a stock of razors remained unsold. When Pearlson took over he added the stamp on the tail and the razors were then sold with both brand names.

Thanks Jimmy, are there many of these razors out there? It's my first duck and will stay with me, value is unimportant but rarity does intrigue me.

It's been a long day, picked up the mother in law from the airport and have been dealing with that all day and will have to for the next 3 weeks! She's amazing but still a very long day.
Thanks for clarifying, my inability to understand is a direct result of year old baby boy, 1.5 year old doberman, expensive italian wife and italian mother in law. I'm rambling now.... but yeah, thanks.

I think it is probably rare as ducks go but I'm not sure. I had never heard of one with both marques. OTOH, I'm not a dubl duck expert. I have five various ducks left since selling my reaper and wonderedge. This thread made me go into the cabinet and check them out. All Solingen and I'm glad of that somehow.

Yep, it's like going into a Bed Bath and Beyond store and seeing mdse from The Sharper Image. When SI closed all their stores they sold their mdse to BBB. The same with DD. Pearlson bought Bresnicks stock. It's unusual but I guess there are others out there though I've never seen one before. Does it make it more valuable? I don't know that's for the market to sort out.

What I will say is when Pearlson got the razor technically it would be New Old Stock. I'll bet he sold it a new though.

$ value really isn't important to me at all. I've yet to purchase a razor I can see myself parting with. I do appreciate all the interest though! Can't wait to get it and get some pictures up!
