I recently purchased 3 straight razors over the counter and I was wondering if they are worth more if they come with what appears to be an original carrying box or not.
Also, can/should I clean the blades, and if so,what should be used ?
Thanks

We dont put values to razors here. But whats worth is what the market will bare. I like to get a orginal box with the razors i buy if i can. As for cleaning up a razor you can look in the libaray at the top of the page. But your better off to leave it to someone who has experiece in doing so.
Those razors will make good shavers you should get them honed up and give it a try.
And Welcome to SRP
Valuations are not done here at SRP sir, worth or value is speculative from one person to another. You could try looking online to see what similar razors have sold for comparison.
What you may get from members is information with regards to the history of your razors.
Your first razor looks to need only a little work, the Wade & Butcher on the other hand will need considerably more.
I only see pictures of two razors? levinll could you post a straight on shot of the first razors blade and then of the tang so we can read it or maybe type out the what it says if that is easier?
Clean 'em with 80 grit sandpaper and resell them immediately.

I don't know about value however I don't think I have ever seen a razor for sale where the presence or lack of a box original or otherwise ever factored into the price.
I keep my boxes in the trash can, at least until trash pickup.
Exactly. The question was whether the box adds value. I don't think so either. I have a darn shelf full of the boxes that I can't bring myself to throw away. I have one or two that I value because they match the razor and are in perfect condition, but the rest..., bah.
i have over 300 boxes just in case someone wants the box. as to cleaning them, in my opinion do not touch them if you are collecting them, if wanting to shave with it, send to one of the pro's here that can do the very time consuming and material expensive process to make it look and perform like new. remember a great razor is not cheap but a cheap razor can cut your face off!!!
Unless the original question was edited, I do not see what the fuss is about.
In my opinion, YES the original box/packaging does add value. How much value is up to the buyer and seller to decide. While some may say it adds no value for them, I would generally stand behind the statement that more is always more unless we are talking about damage or rust.
To go a bit further, you can go on popular auction sites and find these boxes available without the razors in various conditions...this will give you an idea of "how much" value they might add to the right person. Personally, I have no plans to ever sell any of my razors, so the boxes simply add to the cool factor regarding how old they are, and not only has the tool survived, but the cardboard/paper box did also!
A general rule on anything antique or vintage is that the more complete the more valuable. How much more valuable in this case is up to the buyer. I would rather have a razor in its original box but personally I would not pay more for it that way but that is just me. There is no real answer here.
