Run away...and dont look back
I can only base my findings on having one of these in for honing, so bear that in mind, please!
The scales were a bit 'rough and ready' in finish, but more importantly they needed filing at the wedge end to let the blade sit in them - they originally held it up half-way.
The clearance of the scales at the pivot was wrong and the scales did not flex enough to hold the blade properly in all positions.
The blade was kinked along the spine and needed grinding to take the high edges off it to allow the bevel to sit on the hone.
The blade began to microchip around mid-grit hone range, and became increasingly jagged as honing proceeded. Eventually I changed to naturals, finishing on a coticule and the edge looked OK but chipped again during stropping. After dropping back to low grit hones three times in succession and finishing with the barest pressure was I able to get an edge relatively free of microchipping after stropping.
I informed the owner that the edge would probably not hold for half a shave - and it didn't. As it was a present from a loved one, it now resides in a case.
Perhaps they aren't all like this one, but somehow I doubt it.
Regards,
Neil
