Cutlers To His Majesty
Some before and after pics of a Joseph Rodgers & Sons razor I picked up off the bay. I noticed it reads 'Cutlers To His Majesty' instead of 'Cutlers To Their Majesties'. I did a little research and found it was probably manufactured between 1777 & 1830. Any knowledgable JR&Sons members here that can varify this or give any additional or correct info? Scale material?
She gives the typical great JR&Sons shave even with the very slight frown in the blade. She ain't purty but what can you expect for less than $20 shipped?

Interestingly in 1830 it changed to cutlers to their majesties, so your razor is 1822 to 1830.
The scales look to me to be either ivory or some kind of bone.

I know, or else loose all properties and titles granted to me by 'His Majesty'..............he already has those but if he tries to take my razors there WILL be a fight!

These marks come from the 1919 register of the cutlers company:

A company can have a number of Royal Warrants, but they usually run out five years after the regents death.

The ones that concern us are 'His', 'Her' and 'Their Royal Majesties' - these are kings and queens, the others are 'Highnesses'.
So that leaves a number of possibilities for the age of your razor. However, if 'England' is not on the tang, the date would seemingly be 1822 - 1830. I say 'seemingly' because Rodgers are well-known for using old tang stamps, so dating from the tang stamp alone - at least in this company's case - is not conclusive.

An update:
I went back to the pdf file 'The History of Joseph Rodgers and Sons' and if I read it correctly they didn't manufacture straight razors until 1800.
The scales are too flexible to be bone so I'm betting on Ivory. I have a matching pair of JR&Sons with Ivory but much thinner than what is on this razor.
