Gottlieb and Hammesfahr

I have been trying to determine approximate age of this blade. It was reground back in the day. Someone got fancy and did a double grind on it, but left the edge almost paper thin. I had to breadboard the thin stuff up to just below the start of the lower grind and got a good bevel. Lost an eighth, but it is still 7/8. G&H started out in 1684. Stayed around a good long while. I have seen many of their stamps, most with a pyramid and "Solingen,Foche" On them.
I have not seen this stamp, though. While worn, I think it is fairly readable. The steel in this is very old. It reminds of old sheffield crucible stuff as working with it.

It does look similar to an old Sheffield, in the shoulder at least. I had a G&H for awhile that I ended up selling, wasn't a bad razor, just too many lying around and had to make room :)

Thanks, Manah. I assume this razor predates these marks. Well back into the 1800's?

That's a wicked point on that razor. Have you had a chance to use it yet?

My Gottlieb is probably my best shaver. I gave my second one up a long time ago and regretted it ever since

Hi mate,
I picked up one of these recently on e-bay and I am quite happy with it.

The company also made the decorative daggers for the German third Riech.

Yes. I did read somewhere that the Nazis did not shut and repurpose them as they did most cutlery makers. They were apparantly such quality, bayonets, knives, daggers for the Riech were made.
