I am looking to make yet another purchase (god help me). I am looking for a larger blade 7/8 at the least, 8/8 would be nice. I have looked at wakers and Dorkos and am looking for some other brands to explore. I have a Hart and a couple of Dovos as well as a Rolf Aust so I am good there. Any recs would be appreciated.
Are you looking for new or a vintage blade? There's so many options and it varies with that question.
New blades 8/8 there aren't so many and all are difficult to find and very expensive. For what I know:
Revisor
Boker
Wacker
Otherwise you must go custom, that will not be much more expensive.
7/8 is much easier and far less expensive.
This time I want to go new or NOS or even something from an old blank. The Dorko that Heribert Whacker makes is from old Dorko blanks. Where is a place I can find these Boker 8/8? i have a couple of vintage Bokers and love them. They get SHARP.
Personally I have yet to see a Boker 8/8. Maybe someone else will chime in with some advice/guidance.
I went with a 7/8 Spanish point Dorko with buffalo horn scales. My birthday is next month so I will make another purchase. I have not seen any TI's bigger than 6/8. Any idea where I can find one?
I am guessing you got that Wacker Dorko from the shavingshop website. They also have 8/8 Friodurs. I have two of them and they are great razors. If you go that route then I recommend getting one of the ones with wood scales as the plastic scales are really cheap. I have one with a worked spine that is one of my fav razors.
I have a couple of 7/8 TIs I got many moons ago. They made them and probably still do. I don't recall seeing an 8/8 TI or an 8/8 Boker. The Dorko sounds cool. If Wacker made it I'd bet it will be a fine shaver.Quote:

Revisor sells 7/8 and 8/8. My favorite razors in any size. They are extremely well made blades. And give a great feel to the razor. Even their 6/8 feels fuller than any other 6/8 I have used while still being full hollow ground. And best of all, in my opinion, they make the 7/8 and 8/8s new.

Unless you need a 8/8 for ergonomic reasons a TI 6/8 is a bootiful thing. :)
I think I have 2 8/8s razors but quite few 7/8s. it's not that I dislike the larger razors because they are clumsy big but what really chaps my hide is those large scales that always seem to get in the way as I shave. I much prefer the 6/8 and 5/8s razors the best.
One of my 8/8s is a Dorko and the other I don't even remember it's been so long since I used it. I think the only razor I've used less is a 2/8s mercur I have.
Perhaps a Bengal? they can come in 7/8 or 8/8. You can usually find them is Australia

I'm with you on big blades. I have a 9/8 and 8/8 Wade & Butcher. I also have a 7/8 TI that I picked up about a year ago from classic shaving. Vintagebladesllc.com also carries 7/8 TI's. Good luck in your search and choice.
The 8/8+ are cool, but i am liking the 5/8 or 6/8 more and more as far as a good shave goes. Gotta try these things to find out though.There were some NOS Palmera no. 14 on the bay a while back, picked one up, awesome blade but junk scales.

Sorry for the step by step but the information is a little scattered in the website (being it is mostly german to english translation). It sounds more complicated than it is. And they are wonderful people to deal with.
I love my 8/8 Revisor it is the best shaver I have, and my favorite to hone.
I tend to prefer the larger blades. I now have 3 8/8 blades (2 friodurs and a Dorko) and 4 7/8 blades (2 Dorkos, 1 Filarmonica and 1 Friodur) and approx 12-15 smaller blades (5/8 - 6/8). I find myself reaching for the big blades 80% of the time. I don't think they give me a better shave to be honest but they are just cool. I am still relatively new to SR shaving (almost 6 months) so the novelty of a big blade hasn't worn off yet. They are a bit heavier so it might be a little easier to plow through a thick beard but I shave everyday so I can't say for sure. Next up I need one of those giant FBU W&B and maybe a large Kamisori!
How about a monkey in the wrench...the 180mm Iwasaki? It is monster by kamisori standards and a nice way to broaden a collection. Shaves like a dream and one gets to learn new honing skills.
