They were made by Dorko under the Modoso name. They are quality razors. I have one that I bought off the classifieds of this site and it gives me a great shave.
I have been curious about these as well. Was there not an old and new production of straights.
I am not sure re: production runs. If I remember correctly, Dorko stopped producing SRs in the 80s so I assume they stopped making Modoso then as well but I am not 100% sure.
MoDoSo is certainly a Dorko brand. Began in 1920 by Friedrich Dorten, they are recorded in the Solingen register of 1983 as follows:
Dorko-Dorten GmbH & Co., Solingen in 1983. Brand names: 'H.H.', 'Hebräische Universität in Jerusalem', 'Modoso-Gold', 'Try Me Sir', 'Turko', 'Wug'. Open-blade razor and safety-razor maker.
Initially they only supplied barbers and export companies, they soon manufactured and exported under their own name. The name Dorko is obviously a contraction of Dor(ten)Co. Which leaves a tantalising theory about how MoDoSo came about. 'Do' for Dorko and 'So' for Solingen, but 'Mo'? There was another company called Dorten & Mochalski in Solingen in 1925 if not before. Perhaps 'Mo' came from them - a collboration or family member, perhaps?
Now called DORKO Stahlwarenfabrik Dorten GmbH & Co. Solingen, I think they still make scissors, tweezers and strops.

Neil

There are wacker dorkos as well. They are the 1151 blade. Shavingshop sells them and I have one. Shavingshop also has the Wacker modoso. According to the guy that runs the shavingshop site, Wacker did his apprentiiceship at the Dorko and somehow gained access to some old blanks. He puts generic scales on them and etches wacker onto the back side of the tang. The one I have is a nice 7/8 with blonde horn scales. It shaves great but I prefer my Vintage Dorkos.
