Default New Acquisitions, Crown & Sword, + George Buck Razor, Info on maker please [PICS]

    Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd show my new purchase from the bay, I never heard of this maker before but I liked the razor and it seemed to be in decent condition to me. Just hoping some kind soul can help me out with some background info on the maker. I haven't received it yet so these are just the ebay pictures. Would also like feedback if anyone can see anything that I missed ie. hone wear etc. if it's a bad purchase help me out and tell me what I'm doing wrong =]. Also below is some pics of the Crown & Sword Razor I purchased today too.

Looks like you did fine on the George Buck, now to the nit picking assessment. This George Buck thread my have some helpful information on the maker.

Some heavy toe ware, some pitting left. The very shiny scales tells me that it has more than likely been buffed, the remaining pitting suggests that the restorer was either gentle, or incapable of getting the pits out. The restraint that suggests is a good indicator that the razor will still be able to take an edge. There may be a slight hook near the heal from previous honing, this will be corrected by careful honing, if it is not an optical illusion. If you like small even bevels you may be disappointed at how this one comes off the hones.

All in all several lifetimes of shaves left in that razor. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

    Thanks for sharing.

I have the same Crown and Sword. In fact I oiled it this morning and look forward to shaving with it once honed.

    Cheers, Sunbird

Nice ERN, seemed to be an innovative company back in the day

im also watching a George Buck atm, with no particular urgency due to funds

i have no razors by them, but some years ago i picked up a half-dozen or so used taps, all in the 1" - 1 1/2" Whitworth

threadsize area, marked George Buck 242 Tottenham Court Road

Hi there, I shaved with it yesterday with an 8k edge, it's only my 3rd or 4th time honing and this time i had to take it from completely blunt up to shave ready so I'd say their a decent razor since I was able to put an edge on it with my minimal skills

Congrats on the honing win. The Ern may take some work but will also be rewarding. Just be sure to clean up & any pits & resultant chips.
