Are razor blade makers just ensuring a big cut?
Despite myriad technological advances, blades for shaving still last only a week. Is this a conspiracy by firms to deliberately fleece customers?

The best part of this article is when they are discussing a man interacting with his razor due to the electronic vibrating impulses. Hey bud, you want some razor interaction? Place this surgically sharp chunk of steel next to the throbbing part of your throat and give it a little shove north:)
The big shaving industry is out to make a profit on left over stubble and ingrown hairs. It is up to those of us that have found better ways to shave to make converts of our friends and family. I recently got my father back into shaving with his fathers DE and he is loving it. He just bushwhacked a six year beard!
I always chuckle when people like the author of this article clamber on about building a better mousetrap. Some consumer products have stayed the same for decades with no need for improvement. DE razors are the same as they always were, and they don't gouge the wallet like a Mach Fusion Saturn V. Its always "we can put a man on the moon, but we can't design a better..." as though the two are related. Sharp things go dull, its entropy.
Looked at cartridges for the first time in 9 months the other day, and guess what? They have gone up in price, but even worse, there is a newer, better one, 50% more expensive than the old one. I could buy a vintage razor that will outlast me for a pack of four that won't last a month, :shrug:

man soon as the ceramic blade comes out im gonna stop buying all these $150+ straight razors and buy 2-3 ceramics ...lol.. then in about 10years the ceramics will be hotter then the big blades on ebay !!! :rock: :rock: :rock: :rock:
Drop the ceramic razor once an you are out 100$. How's that sound?

Great article. I always talk about this issue with members of my family, cousins, uncles. I gave a DE razor to one of my cousins and he says now he would never go back to the disposables.

It seems the name of it is "Practical ceramic razor blade", it also say; "Stainess and carbon steel blade".
If I am ever without a straight, next preference is a DE. But, after that, I'll take a "crappy" single bladed razor over the multiblade nonsense any day. Cheaper, yes, but it's also in the design. A single blade razor is designed so that blade does the shaving. Multiblade razors rely on progressive cuts and, IMO, a pull & cut scheme. OUCH.Quote:
