As I had heard great things about these razors, I ordered one myself. Still eagerly awaiting delivery!
These are great shavers and beautiful to the eye.
I picked up a stainless 6/8 w/ olive wood scales sometime back. One of the reviews reported difficulty in honing, but I must have gotten lucky. This shaves remarkably well and was a bargain to boot.
They look very nice indeed.....hmmm.....US/AUD exchange rate looks good too.... :)
James.
Gentlemen, I had a 6/8 already, in plastic scales, which are substantial, but went ahead and ordered a 5/8, too. I like 5/8 razors. As for honing the Ralf Aust, I have found no problem at all. My 6/8 took a sweet edge and shaves beautifully. I hope the manufacturer succeeds with these razors, for they are quality, and quite handsome, too. The noble Lynn has a good eye for fine razors. Good show, Lynn.
I've looked at the Aust razors for awhile and kept putting off getting one. Glad I did. Ordered a 6/8 RP w/faux ivory from SRD this morning. :D
Howard :)
I'm not seeing anywhere on the site that talks price... anyone have a link? If not PM me so I can save up? :)
Check out the SRD site - they are there.
I was contemplating on buying one from their homepage a while back, but due to my lack of hone skills I decided to wait. But now that SRD have these babies in stock I had to order. Cant wait to shave with it :D
I've been debating on these myself for quite some time.
Glad that SRD has them now. Can't wait till they get a 6/8 Spanish Point in anything but the Grenadille (not a huge fan).
Well, it came today, 6/8 Round Point in Faux Ivory scales. Received it this afternoon. As soon as I took it out of the coffin I was immediately impressed with the weight and feel, still wrapped in its paper. The faux ivory even has the grainy pattern of real ivory and the blade, which is nicely done with a faint etching on the front and the Ralf Aust signature stamped on the tang, fits perfectly between them. The razor is beautiful, IMO, for it's lack of frills and obvious high quality. The blade is heavy and also tight and consistent through all positions.
I haven't shaved with it yet, tomorrow, but did the same edge test I do with my razors after honing and I'm confident it's going to shave very well. I can see my RAD remission being challenged by these. :tu
Howard :)
I ordered the same razor from SRD. I just shaved with it and got a great shave. I agree that the razor feels heavy but it's not a problem. While I was shaving I kept thinking about what Boris The Blade said "Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always hit them with it." Just kidding ;) I'm really glad I bought it. It's simple and the quality is high. Go get one
Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I like what I've read so far. You really seem to know your stuff. I'm trying to buy an ralf aust 6/8 Spanish point but can't find anyplace that has one. Also the same frustration trying to buy a revisor. SRD is out of stock for the aust. Any suggestions?
Well, Revisor doesn't sell through retailers, they sell exclusively through their own website.
For the Ralf Aust, as far as I know besides Straight Razor Designs, The Different Scent in Berlin, Germany sells them. But bearing their basic price and added shipping cost in mind, it might be wiser to wait until SRD restocks.
