Identifying a razor

I wonder if anyone can help me identify a razor that I have been using. I'm the third generation on this particular blade. I inherited it from my father (I'm 57) and he received it from an old friend of my grandmother's.

The razor has tortise shell (real not faux) scales. The only writing on the blade are the words "German" on the shank of the blade and " '98" on the tang.

I've been using this blade in my rotation for years. It's well worn and to add angle on the edge, I've attached a strip of duct tape to the back.

By the way, it shaves extremely well.

At least you have *some* markings on your blade. I have one I've been using for three years that has nothing.... zilch. For a while it bothered me that it defied identification, but it shaves good and that is all that matters to me now.:)

That's really cool, real tortoise shell is very hard to find. On e-bay that would fetch a serious price. Hang on to it though. I don't know the razor but anything that's a family heirloom is something to hold on to.

Many tortoises are endangered and trade in their shells is outlawed.
I understand ebay will not allow you to trade real tortoise through them.
