Hey guys,
I have been thinking about trying a fixed razor shave and saw this razor. I like the profile and shape, but the last picture has me thinking the spine is just waaay too thick and the geometry might be too far off. The only measurement that I have is that the blade length is 2.5inches long. I'm waiting to see what the width and how thick the spine is.
What do you think?

That razor reminds me of a few that myself and Bruno ended up with to test, trying to get a shaving edge out of them was a nightmare..
The Spinewear -vs- Bevel formation looks odd in the pics, without the razor inhand and on the stones, I always am hesitant to say for sure, but from the pics I don't like what I see
Again JMHO from the pics you are presenting...
Is this a custom made or restored razor ? I don't want to offend anybody by comments but this razor looks wrong on several levels to me.
The price may speak volumes.
It's custom and I didn't see it on this site.
If I was custom making razors, I would appreciate constructive criticism. Feel free to PM your thoughts.
Let's just say that I would sell this razor cheap if I made it and, I am going to be making razors soon I hope. It is not an easy thing to do and produce results like you see selling for several hundred if not more than a thousand dollars. It may very well turn out to shave well on the other hand and that is the most important part. I found a post with this link in it and so I pass it on. Section III. - Setting Razors If you type into the search box you will find many a thread on the proper angle for a bevel.
The other things to consider in customs is heat treat and temper. What material is used. You may get 1 good shave out of it but, will it hold an edge , how will it hone later. How many razors have been made and who can you talk to that has used one. Is there a satisfaction guaranty ? Communication with the maker is your best way to form an opinion. If the maker is not the seller than why is it being sold ?
If I were making razors right now my first few would go to a honemiester for testing and or as a gift. The last thing I would want is a bad reputation before I even got started. No need to go PM I think I have spoken my piece from the perspective of " if I made it ", and covered most of the concerns I would have about buying it. And like I said price is the deciding factor always.
