New acquisition. Very excited.

So went put hunting and found this pretty little guy sitting in a pile of less than appealing straights. Picked up the coffin and got quite excited seeing its size.

Its an Ashton and Jackson 8/8 improved silver steel wedge. it is in all original state. Scales are translucent honey horn with brass bullseye washers. no damage to the scales except for minimal warping and some dirt.

Has anyone heard of the manufacturer? I haven't heard of them before. Any info on it would be great. I LOVE knowing a little about each blade I own.

Nice find! I love the shape of that blade. :)

I'm afraid I can't help with any info on the maker, but I will suggest giving those scales a bath in neatsfoot oil. I suspect they'll look even better.

I plan on only cleaning the scales and cleaning some of the rust from the Blade. The dealer oiled the blade a bit so he took care of it while he had it, but the best part was the price tag. It was the lowest price I ever paid for a razor. $8.00 with no tax. I couldn't pay her fast enough.

Well you have me beat. Actually the lowest I have paid is 12.00 for a straight. Just last week it was. picked up 3 razors 2ea for 12.00 each and a Hibbard for 18.00. Thought that was a good price on the Hibbard. But did find a nice fat Wade a couple weeks ago. I shelled out 75.00 for it. Hated to spend it but thought what the heck. I really like the looks of the big Wade's. Also that is probably the first that I have heard that a dealer did use some oil to help protect it.

So basing on what I read there it is pre 1850 when Jackson stopped using his late partners name.

Now this may be my oldest. Its a toss up between this and my w&b vr wedge.

So after too many hours and laps on the hones to count, I finally got the nick out and got it shave ready. Got a damn fine shave from it too. I'm really starting to like the heavy wedges. The only downfall I've seen is the absurd amount of time it takes to hone them.

I agree. I have 2 wedges and a 1/4 hollow as well as a few hollow and extra hollows and find myself going to the heavier blade more often.
