Only thing I can say is that it is a good razor. Wade and Butchers are highly regarded as great shavers.
I'm still learning, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but based on the lack of the "England" on the tang it is pre 1890. And it may be the lighting, but based on the shininess of the blade and the pivot pin, I don't believe the scales are original. They maybe a transplant, but i think horn scales would have been what was on the razor originally.
Hope that isn't too far off.
1) Those ARE horn scales. pins look original too. its nice.
2) Looks a bit TOO shiny. Somebody may have put it to a buffer. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if
the blade were heated up by buffing too aggressively, it could damage the temper.
I can't say it's a good razor till I shave with it . ;)
Welcome to SRP. What I can tell you about that razor is that I had it stuck in my boot when I went into the Piggly Wiggly in Mobile. By the time I realized it was gone I was clear up into Biloxi and didn't have time to turn back. So glad you found MY razor ....... :rofl2:
Good looking razor, looks all original to me probably around 1850, Enjoy!
Thsnks guys for all the info.
it sounds like this razor is the prize i was hoping it was.
A friend of mine did the restoration, Said he found it in pretty bad shape. Sold it to me for not much. i think he just likes restoring them
