Today I wanted to give me a rite particularly long and relaxing, to recover energy. It was a "Total Recall" against all the accumulated stress.
The choice of instruments was simple ... the ultimate sweetness available.
Then the result would be announced to be sure ... but beyond superlative comfort, has added value as a depth and a softness that I have rarely reached.
Many efforts ... well rewarded !!

Commemorating 100 years since the ANZAC (Australia & New Zealand Army Corps) arrived on the beach at Gallipoli
* An old Bengall Razor that belonged to my grandfather (though not from military service)
* A plain brush.
* A hand mirror reflecting the NZ National War Memorial
Nothing fancy would have been available to those who served.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They shall sleep with honour as do we;
This post commemorates the 100th anniversary of the landing of the combined Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) at Gallipoli on the 25th April 1915. The razor I have chosen is a Bengall 6/8 of the period. The brush is a plain bristle and the soap is Sunlight, which would have been typical of the time and place. The soldiers would have stropped their razors on anything that fell to hand, probably canvas or a leather belt. The only aftershave was water, sea or otherwise.
The backdrop seen here is an extract from my Great Uncle's service records showing him being wounded at Gallipolli - he survived that battle but died on the Somme in France 2 years later.
Lest we forget

An early morning shave to commemorate ANZAC day.
As a New Zealander waking up under an Aussie sun I am touched to think of the incredible bonds forged between our countries in times of war and the sacrifices made by so many to ensure our way of life.
Lest we forget.

The scuttle is a generic one. I'm sure some of the officers would have had the luxury of shaving with hot water, not like the boys in the trenches.

Why
When that bugle starts to blow
We all cry,
all of us.
But some of us don’t know why.
When The Ode is read
We all cry,
All of us.
But some of us don’t know why.
When the wreath is laid
We all cry,
All of us.
But some of us don’t know why.
Care for them.
Care for those who know why.
Why they cry.

This post commemorates the 100th anniversary of the landing of the combined Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) at Gallipoli on the 25th April 1915. My wife and I went to the local Dawn Service this morning and we were staggered by the attendance. Our little town has a population of round 6000 people and I reckon everyone of them was at this mornings service.

Today in Australia we commemorate all our brave troops who landed at Gallipoli on this day 100 years ago in the First World War.
This was the birth of the ANZACs - Australian and New Zealand Army Corp
Many of us attended a dawn service this morning to pay our respects to the many thousands of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lives in this landing.
Here is the ode we say each ANZAC day to honour these brave men.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
