Three years here today, so I guess a third way through my apprenticeship. The reason I say that, stainless edges taunt me. Stunning razor, but I can't quite get it where it should be.

Not a great shave this morning. I used a Gillette Platinum blade, which I have not used a lot in the past. It didn't seem to work too well. The scent was great and the AS calmed things down a bit for me.

PRESHAVE: Face wash with soap and warm/hot water
RAZOR: iKon OSS with Bamboo handle
BLADE: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
SOAP: Reef Point Soaps Sandalwood
BOWL: VDH
BRUSH: VDH Boar
SHAVETTE: Universal Shavette with Astra SP (new)
POST: Rinse with warm/hot water to get soap off and then some cold water rinses/splashes and pat try.
Comments: Well, since I just sent in my Wolfman heads for a mod, I was left with the iKon OSS. When I opened the desk and seen the unused Universal Shavette, I thought I might as well try it and see what happens. I put in a new Astra SP blade, lathered up the Reef Point Soap Sandalwood sample I just got in today and as things were going pretty good shaving the cheeks then suddenly a nick on the cheek by jawline. Okay no biggie so started going under the lip area XTG and bam, another nick. I said that okay, it happens. That one didnt want to stop so I grabbed the Styptic pencil and hit that nick and continued on. Did some of the other cheek, then I just got a little mad at myself for the two nicks and put the shavette away and finished my shave with the iKon OSS. I figured I must no have enough concentration at this point to keep going with the shavette so I didnt. Soap was very good and my first time ever using Reef Point. The nice slick lather provided me with great protection and feel throughout the shave and the post shave feel was also very good. No issues with the soap what so ever! The scent was not strong enough to drive nuts as I don't like strong scented soaps so I was pleased about that. The scent is stronger than others I have tried but not too strong! No irritation though so I would say it was a good DFS shave with only a couple of bad points! First point is that the iKon OSS feels too mild to me and of course the other bad point was the two nicks and my lost concentration to finish with the shavette! Maybe next time!
Please feel free to leave comments on any items used as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV!
Thx.

June 4 - Shave 2 of the month
Prep: Hot shower, Nivia Face wash
Brush: Omega 48
Preshave: Stirling Mentha Preshave oil
Soap: TSD Lanolin Bay Rum
Razor: Gemstarcustom Sheffield 5/8 square point hollow.
Growth: 2 days
Post: Cold water splash, frozen towel, alum, Clubman Bay Rum AS, Proaso Green + m-bomb post shave balm, styptic pencil
Passes: WTG, XTG, WTG
I took my cold water shave to the next level today - frozen towel after cold water splash. Don't remember where I got the idea from, but put a wet towel in the freezer last night and pulled it out this morning preshave to let it loosen up a bit.
First pass with dominate hand was fantastic. Smooth, no pulling or tugging. I think I got all excited, because when I put the square point to my face with non-dominate hand, I nicked right below my sideburn with the point - man did it bleed. (WE'VE GOT A BLEEDER!)Attachment 203076 bleeder.jpg Once I got the bleeding to stop with the styptic pencil, I was able to continue. N/S from sideburns to under jaw line seems to be doing the trick and getting all my trouble spots covered with the straight. My 2nd pass was XTG again on face and ATG on neck with light pressure - so amazed at how letting gravity and the sharpness of the blade do the work I'm left with little irritation. 3rd pass was WTG again
Alum/Clubman combo was a nice little wake up call - but not too stingy (I'll continue to make words up as I like thank you very much!) The real winner of the shave today was the frozen towel. Once I finally got it unrolled, pressed the coldness to my freshly shaved face was very refreshing. Monday, I mentioned that stirling post shave balm felt a bit heavy so I went with the proaso with a few drops of m-bomb and I think that's the combo for now. Can't call it a BBS - since I consider BBS perfection and I nicked my check with the point but still a great shave today.
