Mastro Livi Double Carbon Damascus San Mai, 15/16 Full Hollow, Barber's Notch
It is always hard for me to tell what of all the Mastro Livi razors I have in my collection is the one I like the most. Each one has its own character and personality, making it unique and special. What I know for sure, is that they all are superb shavers. This one is quite special for the fact it is a double carbon damascus san mai - personally crafted by Mastro Livi, of course - and especially "tailored" for my hand thanks to a special ergonomic grip. Not to mention the fact Mastro Livi wrote my name in the tang, giving this razor an absolutely special, unique and personal touch. I simply love it! I am also trying to compare my shaving soap to others in order to better understand how good is the one I make and what I should change or improve. This was also the occasion to use this lovely 4711 eau de cologne aftershave, a fragrance I really like and this one also proves to be a good aftershave.

One happy camper.
BBS in two. :)
Have a good week gentlemen.
Here, life returns to normal. Kids back in school.
8/16/15 - Near BBS today.
I'm using a sample test of soap with the H. Boker King Cutter.
I thought I would use the Gillette Contract Tech today for clean up. But I used some new techniques with the straight that gave me near BBS. Wow
The Techniques:
- I concentrated on pushing the blade through the hairs on the first pass. Also getting all the hairs I can on the WTG pass making sure I'm actually going "with the grain". Meaning, at the end of the pass I can run my finger WTG and feel no hairs.
- for the very coarse hairs under my chin, I started where I would stop on my WTG pass. Not sure why, but it worked. It cut the hairs a lot better.
- I used a slicing motion on my chin for the XTG pass. Moved over it like I was cutting bread. Very effective.
I got these from Larry at Whipped Dog in his E-manual on straight shaving. Very informative.
Also, ordered his 2 inch leather/webbing strop.
Things I Learned:
- Pressure is not necessary for the 2nd and 3rd passes.
- No need to make clean up lasses on the 2nd pass.
Got a little irritation from both of those mistakes. Nothing real bad though.
It's not the fact I got a lot of whiskers cut, but the fact I learned some techniques that'll help. :)
