I have been shaving with a DE for a week but this morning I had my new brush and shave soap. I had been using regular soap and no brush.

Well, what can I say? The Bergische Löwe is overpriced, and has too much goldwash, but somehow, I keep reaching out for it in the mornings, simply because it is such a nice razor. Incidentally, I am about to replace my Castle Forbes stuff with Edwin Jagger (aka Klar Seifen GmbH). It costs about the same, maybe slightly less, but the combination of the cream with the after shave balm delivers the best results overall so far. Nice stuff, indeed.

Last shave - Sunday morning with my fave old DE MÜHLE R89.
~ Frederick Reynolds 6/8ths, aka 'The Sexy Beast', a gorgeous restore / rescale with Faux Tortoise by Master Max, and a fantastic shaver, and after 3 days of waiting , 15 hours later still so smooth I may not shave tomorrow
~ Prep with Ogallala Bay Rum After Shave, yum yum
~ Still fave Edwin Jagger medium silvertip with clear acrylic handle
~ Truefitt and Hill Grafton Shaving Cream, I think that this maybe was an older jar or the end of a batch or something, it is so thick that it's almost hard, I scrape a portion out and let the hot water break it down, fairly strong, the scent just kind of sticks with you all day, very enjoyable, maybe a little overpowering for some
~ Ogallala Bay Rum with Sandalwood After Shave, great / awesome / fantastic to the last drop
~ Truefitt and Hill Grafton Cologne

Wednesday's Shave:
TIPTLE #152
Tony Miller Linen/SRD English Bridle
Omega Barberia Italiana Commemorative
Sir. Irisch Moos Shaving Stick
Booster's Mosswood Aftershave
After selling an espresso grinder, I had a little bit of money to spend. I picked up the TIPTLE from eBay, which was somewhat of a gamble due to the pitting. Well I received it yesterday, and honed through what minor pitting there was along the bevel out rather easily. I took it through my Naniwas then to my new coticule. The edge was very smooth and forgiving. Probably the best edge I've had yet (which isn't saying much)

Thanks, man. Undream made those scales for me - they're a faux tortoise acrylic. There's a write up (and much better photos of his work) here. What you can't see in my photo is the wedge, which is black horn lined with brass. Brad does amazing stuff!

There is story for today's SOTD photo. The razor is the only shaving-related family heirloom that I have. It belonged to my great uncle, Frank Carroll, who died around 1962, several years before my birth. I spent a great deal of time in my childhood with his widow, my great-aunt. She was a wonderful lady and I have many fond memories of time spent with her. She was particularly close to my mother and gave Uncle Frank's razor to her. My mother passed away in 1988 and the razor remained in a drawer in our house for 20 years until my father remembered it. He gave it to me and I had some light restoration and honing done on it. So, with all of that, I tried to use traditional items that Uncle Frank might have used 50 years ago. Obviously, the Simpson brush wasn't part of his set-up, but the others might have been. I can visualize him standing in his old country house in rural, north Lousiana with this razor and a cup of shaving soap. It's neat that I'm now using the same razor in my home some 50 years later.

Chris, that's super cool!
Thursday's Shave:
6/8 Dubl Duck Satinedge
SRD Webbing/ Bridle
DR Harris Arlington Shaving Soap
Semogue 1305
Dominica Bay Rum w/ Lime
Along with my new TI, I also took this Duck to the coticule and it really helped the edge. What was once a tad bit harsh, was now very smooth.
I am beginning to really like this razor.

First straight shave in some time, and it made me remember just how good they can be (despite both these razors needing some hone time). Also, natural light is a b**ch to take a photo with using my cheap camera. Now, it's time for me to umpire my first game of hockey of the season.
