I'm really liking the Kai. I use the Feather Professional blades which are very sharp. The Kai requires a light touch, but if used properly, gives a very close and comfortable shave.
This is the old formula. Just for info, one way you can tell (without having the ingredients list on the box) is by the bowl. The old Penhaligon's soaps have the kind (Blenheim Bouquest or English Fern) printed on the soap lid. The newer bowls just have "Penhaligons" on them.

Result: a wonderful shave! I added some glass shelves to the shave den yesterday as well as an electric kettle. Today's lather was amazingly hot and I love the new home for some of my soaps and A.S. & E.D.T. What a great start to the week! Cheers!:beer2:
Thanks Matt! The polo green is my all time favorite. The polo blue is a nice summer time fragrance IMHO. I buy them @ walmart to keep the cost down. Cheers!
Thanks Robert, I ran out of space in the cabinet I have and needed more room:) Cheers!
Had a great day today. Met with some of the SRP folks today. It was great to put some names to faces and sit and talk about shaving. Watched Dylan set a bevel and complete a hone. Also watched him at his buffer for a few minutes. Had to leave for lunch with my daughter and then returned her to school. Great day for me although it is always tough to see her leave.
Anyway onto the SOTD:

Went to the NYC shave meet up, met some guys who are just as sick about steel, stone, hair, skin, horn, ivory and bone, as I am. Was reassuring to know I'm not alone :)
And I am officially in need of a Japanese Natural finishing hone. Oh my god.
Monday morning 7 a.m.
Yesterday I used my finisher (Jnat) for my Thiers Issards and now I'll test the razors.
Both work very well.

You canīt win them all :). This morning was not the best shave ever. I was in a hurry and everyone wanted to talk to me when I was lathered up and our youngest (11 yrs old) threw up. I cut myself on the throat, yes - cut throat :fim:, while trying to get ready fast (by only doing one effective pass). I like this razor though, nice touch to it and the blade is very good.
Prep: Hot shower
Scuttle: SRD
Brush: TGN Custom Silvertip
Uberlather: Mama Bears "Fall Leaves", Saint Charles Shave Unscented, 5 drops glycerin
Razor: Wade & Butcher "For Barber's Use"
After Shave: Masters Bayrum
Result: A close shave, with a little irritation.
I took the W&B to the hones last night, I think I need to completely reset the bevel or send this one out. I can't seem to get an even bevel on this one. I gave it the shave test and it was quite obvious that it is not there.
Have a great day gentlemen, you deserve it!
Wostenholm Frameback | Kanyama | Semogue 830 | HoneyBee Essentials Rosewood Cedar | Tade Alum | Thayer's Lavender | Nivea Sensitive Le Labo Rose 31
http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/a.../25OctSOTD.jpg
What a way to start the work week! Tried to bowl lather the Honeybee Essentials and wound up with a weak bubbly soap that wouldn't hold up on the face. As a result, the first pass was not the greatest at all. The blade felt like it was tugging (but I know it was just the lack of adequate prep because Glen put an outstanding edge on this baby when he restored her) and I knicked myself under the chin. For the second and third passes, I decided to face lather, and that is where this Semogue really shines. I found myself drowning in thick, rich lather and the blade suddenly seemed to glide around the face.
The scent of the rosewood cedar was perfect for a fall morning and the Le Labo fragrance never fails to set my mood right.
Have a great Monday, gentlemen!
My kids are grown and gone with families of their own, but I try my best to keep the wife away while I'm shaving. Sometimes merely closing and locking the "shave cave" door is not enough, as she can talk through it, so my best shaves are when I have the house to myself.
I took a nick under the ear myself yesterday because my wife was home and talking while I was shaving.... I'm sometimes not a good listener..
Hope you heal soon, Mikael, and the little one feels much better!

First time shaving with this one in a while. Very nice edge. I think I finally got my coticule down path.
Have a great week!
Glenn,
I do feel your pain and frustration...Isn't it irritating when the bevel is just not quite there (no matter what you do)? I have the same problem with my Torrey frameback. Although it is much better now, it is a pain to hone. My problem is that the Torrey is not sitting flat on the hones and gets uneven contact along the edge. Send yours out...it looks like a beautiful blade.
Hey Bill,
Sorry about the cut buddy. Man...between you, Mikael and Glenn, you guys are having one heck of a Monday :(. Glad your like the Semogue though...I am still on the fence with this one, but may soon get one just to try :)
Instead, I am sure that Tuesday will be much more rewarding.
Robert,
Thanks for the concern. My cut was, thankfully, nothing more than a knick. I recommend trying a Semogue. I was on the fence for quite a while, but soon realized that they are far more affordable to experiment with than a high end badger and, if you don't like it, they sell pretty easily on the forums...
