Brush: 25mm Custom Shavemac D01 Silvertip Badger |
Maxterpiece: 7/8" Friodur INOX scalloped back, Full Hollow Ground, Spike Point (w/ Black paper Micarta scales) |
Honing Regimen: Maruichi Nakayama Asagi w/ Tomonagura slurry dilution and 70 laps on water |
Strop: 0/0/0 (Neil Miller Linen / Imperial Horsehide leather / Imperial Cordovan leather) |
Überlather: Black Jack Shave Creme + D.R. Harris "Arlington" Shave Soap + Glycerin |
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose, no alcohol) |
Moisturizer: D.R. Harris Aftershave Milk |
After Shave Splash: D.R. Harris "Arlington" AS |
Cologne: D.R. Harris "Arlington" EdC |
Results: This Friodur is an absolutely wonderful shaver. I refreshed the edge on the Asagi last night and this AM, she delivered one of the smoothest shaves:nj (albeit with a very tiny nick below the upper lip). The Arlington is a refreshingly fragrant and fantastic soap. Lovely in every aspect:y. I hope they never discontinue it (maybe I should stock up and not take any chances). |

Shaving by Candlelight and Cold Water
I just want to say thank to the entire site for learning how to shave in not so comfortable conditions. I live in Northern NJ and just went through hurricane Irene. Lost power for awhile and the basement was completely flooded. Lost almost everything downstairs, except the shaving gear!
Finally got the chance to shave but using a candle and cold water. I've been shaving in cold water for about a year so that was no problem so it sure came in handy knowing how to do that. We have to boil water right now. A little strange using candle light actually kind of eerie. I was expecting Anthony Perkins to attack me from behind, the Psycho movie star, but it was an interesting challenge.
Prep: Any Soap and cold water
Cream: Proraso
Razor: Thiers-Issard 6/8 Grelot
Brush: Badger Brush Silver-Tipped
Strop: Illinois Russian Leather and Linen
Aftershave: Nivea non-alcohol cream
A good shave surprising goes a long way to help cope with the day. Thanks again guys.
