Hey Jeff how was your first day back after a month off?
No shave for me today, I better let the face heal and take off a layer tomorrow.

Lost my job today. :( No work in my field available, so I'm looking at anything I can get, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.. Not fun, after first 24 years with Qwest, now 6 years with Runge's and I'm unemployed for the second time in my life. I could use some good karma for sure. I'd been feeling bad karma coming at me for the last couple of weeks, I just didn't know where or when. Guess I do now.... Bummer. I was trying to be as good a person as I could be, but bad karma finds you when it's your turn. Maybe something good will happen now.
m
Oh man mike. I am so sorry. Hang in there. Maybe this will open a door to better things.
Thanks Jeff. It's a great shaver too.
Sorry to hear that, Mike. Hoping something great comes about for you.
Mike,
Me too. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your job. What a crappy way to begin the New Year.
Wishing you all the best in your job search.
Mike,
I'm afraid I don't go a bundle on karma at the moment. It seems like that bad guys never get what's coming and the good guys are getting all the crap.
I wish you every success with finding a new job. As has been said that a pretty bad way to start the year so lets hope it looks up from here.
Mike,
+1 to what Omega said. Use this as an opportunity to regroup and look for new paths. Make the best out of a bad thing. Good luck to you.
Shon
Mike,
Having recently been through this same thing, I wish you all the luck in the world. Keep a positive attitude and you can turn this around to something positive!
Back To WorkPrep: Hot Shower with Real Shaving Exfoliating Scrub Razor: Yama-Masa Kamisori (semi-rescued by Nagakichi Kamisori) Brush: Bryce C 24mm Silvertip Ironwood Scuttle: Robert Becker #9 Black Strop: 25/50 SRD Webbing/episaacs homemade 'roo Lather: T&H Trafalgar Astringent: Witch Hazel ASB: T&H Trafalgar Cologne: T&H Trafalgar Comments: I still haven't had the time to sit and get on the hones for JaNorton, though the night is still young. I had this Yama-Masa kamisori that I've been meaning to test for a while, so today was the day. Well, either I don't have the knack for a kamisori yet, or this one needs to be honed properly, because it wasn't nice. The Nagakichi sort of saved the shave, though my ingrown problem on the neck reared its ugly head. Too bad, because the Trafalgar is such a sweet product line. Oh well, I'm still learning! Anyway, I'll be hitting the hones tonight or tomorrow and then it's JaNorton time. I'm already working on updated The Noob Chronicle with my neck woes and kamisori foibles. Happy shaving, my SOTD Brothers!
Semogue 620 | Palmolive (Euro) | Muhle R41 (2011) - Bolzano | Alum | Sabon Cream | Sigilli Athunis
I am starting to love the Palmolive soap. I have to rank it up there as one of the best. In three shaves, this Muhle R41 has grown on me. It is not for the faint of heart at all, but I really enjoyed this shave with it.

Mike,
I'm sorry to hear you lost your job. I can only hope this turns into an opportunity for you.
All the best!
Jack
Mike,
I'm sorry to hear that news. Happened to me twice a few years ago, each time I managed to find work that was much better than I had previously. I praying that something good will find you.
Good Morning,
Prep: Shower
Strop: SRD Premium 1 Leather, 30, 70
Brush: TOBS , Silvertip
Soap: Neils Yard Remedies shave soap, Cella Crema Sapone
Razor: Dovo Master's
AS: Old Spice Whitewater.
I purchased the shave soap in London, it got mixed with the Cella by virtue of the fact that it was smaller than my bowl, so I filled the space around it with Cella. Anyway, it all made a good lather.
I just went with a quick 2 pass shave today, very presentable.
I'm using this Dovo more and more, mainly because it's stainless and I'm relaxed about not oiling it etc etc after I've shaved. (poor excuse, saves me about 30 seconds )
Have a Great Day

Wednesday
First day back at work after the holidays. I guess it wasn’t THAT bad, I consoled myself by looking forward to my workout after work. I spent most of the day teaching a beginner computer class, and then teaching decimals, fractions and percentages. The teachers in the Women’s Prison Education centre I run are still away on holidays, so it gives me a chance to teach again. I forget sometimes how much I miss teaching rather than coordinating.
This morning’s shave was with the W&B I re-honed yesterday as part of the JaNorton 2012 project. It was improved over the previous attempt. I think it could still be better, but I don’t think I’d go back to the 4k again, maybe just the 8?
I’ve been eagerly awaiting some C O Bigelow shave cream from the US, until I learnt yesterday that it’s ‘just’ repackaged Proraso. Now I DO like Proraso, but I’ve just bought a container (in the plastic container, not the tube). However, I guess the same stuff in a tube may be better, I’m still torn between scooping some Proraso out or swirling my brush, it’s really too hard to scoop and too soft to swirl! Should have gone with the Musgo Real or the Pre de Provence like I was going to. Too many nice sounding creams and soaps and too little time and money...
Razor: Wade and Butcher Special Pre Shave: Sukin facial moisturiser on the face and beard in the shower; Proraso Überlather: La Toja ASB: None After Shave: Pinaud Clubman and Burberry ‘The Beat’ Eau de Toilette

I'm done for a while with my Japanese razors so this was the first one I grabbed. Good grab too!
Pre: Hot shower and Vitos pre shave cream
Lather: Omega shaving cream+Vitos shaving cream+glycerin+lanolin
Brush: Omega 10098 long boar
Razor: Ribbon Solingen spike point
Post: alum block and Thayers WH Toner
PSB: Pre de Provence
AS: Musgo Real Oak Moss
Attachment 86578
Location: Coffs Harbour Australia
Strop: MickR's Roo Hide
Brush: Comoy Badger
Soap: BodyBar "Little Green Apples" + Glycerin
Razor: Customized Gotta 120 11/16
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel
Balm: Nivea Replenishing
This is my second run with the goats milk base soap and I think the glycerin made an improvement, however I did put a little too much water in the mix. I think I can get it to work well though.
I haven't used the Gotta for a while and wasn't sure how the edge was on her.
I was pleasantly surprised with a fantastic edge, I think I was concentrating too much on the lather and not enough on the shaving though.
Not 1 but 2 cuts tonight :dropjaw:, 1 on the ear lobe and 1 right in the middle of my left cheek.
That's 2 nights in a row that have ended in bloodshed, dont know whats going on but I feel like a total newb.
I'm sure its just a slump :)

Thanks for all the great posts and pics fellas

Welcome to the brotherhood, great looking razor for your first post too.
Real sorry to hear your news mate. As all the other guys have said I'm sure this hurdle will just open the door to another opportunity for you.
As far as the Karma goes, I'm sure its not catching up with you. Maybe just giving you some misfortune now, only to be followed by some great Karma in the near future.
Grant
Sorry to hear about your job Mike, hope you find another, better one soon. Good luck!
Am I the only one seeing the pattern here?
Day1: 1 cut
Day2: 2 cuts
Day 3: .......
Not trying to jinx you Grant http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/...c/witchpot.gif but be careful tomorrow :)

Razor: Imperial Extra Hollow Ground
Brush: Omega Boar
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
AS: Nivea Double Action Balm
Finish: Manatiales La Toja
This one was kind of rushed but I really can't imagine a shave being much better. MWF is a perrenial favorite and the edge on this razor just seems to improve every time I use it. The Nivea/La Toja combination was also remarkable. Great shave! Love to sit and chat but I was supposed to be at least on my way to work right now. Gotta run, have a great one fellas!
