Decent Shave. Lotion is sill biting a little too much. I have relegated the PDP soap as a pre-shave. Seems to be working ok. I think I am going to keep two to three soaps in my rotation from now on. The Cade is great but I think it is also going to be relegated as a pre shave soap. Do not get me wrong. It is great. I just wanna keep it simple. Also, last night, we had a bonfire and I ate way too many S'mores.

First shave off the stones. Edge is a bit harsh, but my face is smooth now. :)
I loved Conway Twitty -- solo, and with Loretta Lynn. The first song by him that I heard was in 1968: an Elvis-like tune called Lonely Blue Boy
Pre-emptive SOTD post for me! Am out early tomorrow am so won't have much time in the morning for the obligatory photo, so this hear is my pre-planned SOTD for Monday. I used my new to me DORKO clippers on my half bald head today too, these things are awesome, they mow through what little hair I have on my head like a Saskatchewan wheat farmers combine swathing through a wheat field :rofl2:

Enjoyed what is quickly becoming a Sunday tradition around my house: workout, long shower, than a relaxing hot towel shave in my beautiful restored 1905 Koken. This was my first shave with my Thomas Ward. I have fallen in love with vintage Sheffield Steel, and the Ward doesn't disappoint. Two passes, CCS.
Have a great week my friends!

I finally got around to re-scaling my FBU, and while I wasn't able to save the original washers, I was able at least to save the original wedge. It's nice sometimes to be able to incorporate some of the original bits like that. :)
It will be a very early day for me, between my annual review at work and a three hour drive to conduct witness interviews thereafter. So I decided to post tonight in anticipation of tomorrow's shave. Here is my anticipated playbill:

I had to give a presentation to staff this morning, so chose the DE for a really perfect shave. I’d shaved yesterday afternoon so didn’t have a lot of growth anyway. I always get EVERY hair with the DE, as I can come up against them 100% ATG. I was also short of time, so again the DE was a good choice.
Nice warm weather; board shorts weather. The local swimming pool opens in two weeks. My weight is bouncing around 73 – 75, but I’ve managed to lose 3.5 kilos in 35 days, which doesn’t sound a lot, actually. I’m not really trying. I’m upping the exercise, but not really reducing calories, unfortunately. I like to eat drink and be merry. I think I should get myself put on an exercise wheel like a lab rat, but keep the sustenance up, that’s the only way this is going to work for me. I wonder how old I’ll be when I finally say “Oh stuff it, let gravity and age do its stuff, I’m going to the winery with a platter of cheese and cured meats…."
...and olives, sun dried tomatoes, marinated artichokes, hommus, guacamole, warm pitta bread and pickled onions, some beer, unwooded Chardonnay. I may need a rug, wool, and possibly a straw hat. Chambray shirt, collar to turn up against the sun, sleeves to roll down. No shoes.
I've been thinking of hats, lately. Maybe a fedora, or a 'boater'. Maybe a flat cap? You can advise on what sort of hat if you wish...

Results: The edge on the Helje for yesterday's shave must have been outstanding. I barely had anything to even touch up this morning. Truth be told I could have skipped the morning shave and been plenty presentable for work but being a creature of habit, I gave it one quick touch up pass and called it good

Have a Great Monday Gents!
Just got this razor Friday and polished it up a bit and dialed it in on the hones. Grant gets the credit for making me want one of these great shavers...been wanting one of these ever since seeing the great pics of his. Thanks Mate!

This is the last shave with the Sea Buckthorn. I could probably squeeze out another shave from what's left but I've lots of other stuff I want to work my way through. I will probably buy it again at some point.
Thanks! That's actually my bedroom. The chairs were restored by Jeff Kimble in Atlanta (he's fantastic btw). The reclined chair is a 1905 and the other is a 1930. The child seat on the 1930 is actually the ORIGINAL child booster that came with the 1905. The backbar is a 1950 Koken that a friend and I plan to restore (new base, marble top, replace one piece of broken glass). My wife wants to put up two large mirrors and then hang my "David's Barber Shop" sign in the center (a gift from a very special patient). She's being a great sport letting me decorate our bedroom this way.

Hi all, Been a while. Work has kept me away for too long. I figured I would slip this in, regardless of whether I have a pic for it or not. Life has been relegating me to 1 or 2 shaves per week here of late. So, to improve the ratio of days to shaves, I have taken to shaving in the mornings with my GEM or Every Ready SE Razors. I love my SE's for that 'hurried' shave in the morning. The only problem is it robs me of the pleasure of that evening shave, which I rarely find the time for now-a-days. A huge thanks to my friend John for the gift of my first GEM SE. Here was this mornings face feast: Prep: Hot shower, Hair conditioning rub, Rise Baby Face Gel rubbed in. Razor: Unknown Year GEM SE with a NEW GEM Blade. Brush: 24mm Silvertip in Honey Locust custom (WillN) handle Uber: TOBS Eton College Collection (the tube version). Post: Alum, Lucky Tiger splash AS: OBR Limes and Peppercorns EdT: OBR Cologne (original). Result: A wonderful 3 pass, extra close and smooth shave. Man, I love a fresh blade in a GEM. It really does a great job for that rushed shave in the mornings. The OBR is a real eye opener and gets me moving a little faster afterward. Have an enjoyable, productive and profitable week gentlemen!!! HammeR
Glad to see you post Mike. Try not to be so long between my friend.
Mike,
Glad you're enjoying the Gem. As I always say: The SE falls about half way between the DE and the Straight for aggressiveness and shaving experience -- perfect for your application.
Good to see you on again. Glad you're workin'. But remember, "All work and no play.." You know the rest!
Take care my friend!http://straightrazorpalace.com/image...es/biggrin.png

MONDAY for the theme "My First..." on another forum Hot shower prep Razor: Schick injector Blade: New Schick stainless Soap: VDH Mug: Coffee mug Brush: generic 28mm silvertip Aftershock: Alum block Splash: NOS Mennen Johnny posted the little Schick his dad gave him. In our home, it was the answer to the family's needs. I still look back, in memory, to my dad shaving in the tiny bathroom of our rented flat. Sometime around then I learned about Oooh! Pretty, shiny, sharp! Took a couple band-aids/sticky plasters to staunch the flow. About 1948 we were able to move into our own home. About 1952 or so I had the "whispies" and started shaving with a razor similar to the one shown. Soap was always what brand was on the sink for general usage. I shaved with variations on the theme till the advent of the "ATRA" which I got for Christmas from my wife. The splash was almost always Mennen though I received and gave away many gifts of Old Spice. Oh, yes, the shave? Wonderful and close as i get in three passes with any blade. The Mennen hasn't lost its tang after many years on the shelf! I am ready to meet my world on a bright fall day! http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/.../sotd10-15.jpg The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker! ~Richard It takes five times as long to post here and there is no formatting command available on this thread. My frustration level with the formatting is about over the top and I may not be post ing till it is corrected.

She IS a great sport, David! Mine is the waiting area of my shop. The chairs are Koken and the waiting chair/bench as well as the cabinets are Kochs. The chairs were rusty and decrept, so I went with black powdercoat and 50's sparkly red. The base of the table is Kochs and the round top custom made and filled with old, colorful razors. There is even a razor clock! I hope to move the old tool collection, install a mirror and shelf on the wall, and put in a red and black checkerboard floor soon. ;) Tom
