First shave with this razor - it came almost shaving sharp and just needed a little tuning - its about 95% there.
This is my first shave with a 1/4 hollow and it feels quite different from my 1/2 hollows. It pulled/dragged a little more (possibly because its not a sharp as it could/should be), but cut through two day's worth of beard in two passes and allowed me to go against the grain more easily than any other razor I have. I also had less burn/irritation - seemed to be a smother shave.
Is this typical with heavier grinds? If so, I can't wait to use the 6/8 full wedge I'm having resotored.
To some extent stiffer grinds are easier to shave with, though I think that a lot of it is wedges are more tolerant of insufficient sharpness, prep, and technique. When I first started I really liked the big stiff wedges and quarter hollows, but lately I've been finding that I really like the older 5/8 size 2/4 - 4/4 hollow (a 4/4 hollow is a full hollow without the extra grind that that hollows out the middle of the blade), which means mostly 19th century razors. I find that I have to be more careful shaving with a really flexible extra hollow because the blade tends to want to chatter in the stiffer whiskers, but once I get into something a little stiffer like a friodur there's no real difference in grind other than weight. With more experience I'm finding that I can shave with more flexible blades without a problem.
I'm sure you're right about both the sharpness of my razors and my technique. One of my favourite razors is a 5/8 Holland that is a little meatier (likely a 1/2 hollow) - a perfect combination of maneuverability and weight. I've got a 1/4 hollow 5/8 coming that I have high hopes for.
I also find that my 6/8 TI full hollow is fine - I have a couple of 7/8 razors, but really like the 6/8 size and can't see myself buying anything bigger for for the forseeable future.
I have very heavy, coarse whiskers around the chin and suspect that a 5/8 full-hollow carbon steel razor is just a little too fine (I do plan on trying a 5/8 stainless and would like a nice frameback as these would also probably do the job as well).

Clean as a whistle no muss no fuss. The Williams soap isn't quite as slippery as the T&H or Harris, but it really does shave well.

It was good but not as good as I wanted it to be. I don't think it's the razor. I might've messed up on my technique a little bit.

Great shave - after my first month things are coming together nicely. There are a lot of moving parts to straight shaving and things are starting to fall in place - I'm better at keeping my razors sharp and my technique is improving all the time. So this is all adding up to shaves that are continually improving - I know I'll plateau at some point, but its gratifying to see continual improvement.

First shave with this razor - seems heavy (even for a 7/8), but was easy to control/use. Overall, a good first shave with this razor.
Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing - I know Dovo has the "Renaissance" which at $120 for a new 6/8 stainless with nice scales seems like it might do the trick.
I've seen lots of the Fridour's in 7/8 and 8/8, but never in 6/8 for some reason.
This is my only SS razor and it does have a different feel to it than my CS blades.

Search for "razor", it should turn up the 5/8 and 3/4 (aka 6/8) size henckels. 5/8 is $100, 6/8 is $150. Comes in a very nice aluminum fitted casket.
The 5/8 is also sold by Nordstroms, but they charge about as much as cutleryandmore charges for the 6/8.
It is interesting that the 5/8 isn't marked a Friodur but the 6/8 is. I assume it means the 5/8 isn't actually cryo treated, but I'm not sure why they wouldn't do this.
Thanks - at the risk of hijacking the thread, how do the Fridour and Dovo SS razors differ - as the Dovo 6/8 is a fair bit cheaper that the Fridour.
It shaves like a Henckels instead of a Dovo:) They're harder, and take a sharper edge and hold it longer. And they've got that stiff Friodur grind. And they don't look out of place sitting next to your other Friodurs.
There's actually some chance that the new Henckels are being made under contract by Dovo, but if so then Dovo is making them to Henckels specs and using henckels grinds, they aren't just a relabeled Dovo model with white twins scales.
Thanks - looks like the Fridour's the one for me - I go with function over form 100% of the time.

Very nice shave today - this is one of my smallest, lightest razors and I had a hard time getting a good shave with it. I set a goal of being able to sharpen the razor and improve my technique to the point where I could get a good shave with this razor - including against the grain.
While not as comfortable a shave as with my larger or stiffer razors, I'm gratified by the fact that I am now able to get a close shave (although I did get some razor burn in a couple of spots) with this razor. There's lots of room for improvement, but I'm quite pleased with my progress to date.

30 hours after a 1-pass shave, my face was more than ready:
-Hot shower (with hair conditioner on the face during the final body-lathering)
-Lather up with some CH Desert Ironwood, using a C&E BB
-1 Pass with the Taylor's Eye Witness 6/8 round point (yep, today WAS Taylor-day :y)
-Re-lather
-1 More pass
-Rinse with warm water, splash of cold water
-A/S treatment was a combination of 99% IPA and facial cream (so it doesn't interfere with my cologne for the Xmas dinner).
All in all this 2-pass shave outpimped most of my 3-pass shaves :nj
- Three days growth
- Shower
- Conditioner
- Kent 50/50 boar/badger brush
- TAGMSC shave soap
- 7/8 TI Red stamina Sheffield Silver steel
- Hot soapy water
- Cold clean water
- TAGMSC aftershave milk
Tried the conditioner on the face for the first pass. I don't think it really helped anything. I honed up the TI a few days ago and this was the first shave with it since. My goodness that thing gets amazingly sharp. I know that some people swear by their cheaper razors but I'm in LOVE with my 7/8 TI.
I do 4 passes on most parts of my face and 2 on the neck. This keeps my neck comfortable and my face as smooth as anything. I think this is my ultimate combo. the TAGMSC stuff is wonderfull and the TI is freaking amazing.

I had 2 shaves today, the second one being with the new, freshly cleaned up Gilette Tech with a Derby blade. It's ok but it will never replace any one of my straights. It will just play the occasional cameo role.
